I was reading an article in my latest copy of Mother Earth News about the gardens of Monticello. I have walked those beautiful and historic gardens. And as I read the article, I found myself once more longing to walk the path of the gardeners before me.
On my first trip to the Midwest I was in awe of the amount of green. When I moved here I was blown away by the ease of growing things. Literally, toss down some seeds and they grow. I have planned and plotted my little gardens since that first magical summer, but walking through Monticello was like walking through a open air cathedral. The historic reverence and cultural fortitude was mind blowing. The historic accuracy of the Monticello gardens is truly a credit not just to gardeners and history researching staff, but all the caretakers back to Jefferson and his passionate love affair with his gardens. I think that most gardeners and farmers of today, also have this passion in varied degrees. I know that seeing so many lovely gardens has truly fed the gardening passion within me.
