Word of The Day

Thought of The Day

Leave a positive impact on society.

Let’s all do this!

Quote of The Day

There are unexplored adventures ahead of you. You can’t live the rest of your life worried about what other people think. You were born worthy of love and belonging. Courage and daring are coursing through you. You were made to live and love with your whole heart. It’s time to show up and be seen.

Yart

Today the Evansville tradition of Yart is being held at Angel Mounds.
The art was great! All local artists, doing their thing.
It’s a beautiful day today; blue skies and sunny, 60* and very windy.
Angel Mounds is a historic Native American burial grounds.
It’s beautiful here in the early spring.

I love the sound of the wind in the trees!

I May Be A Nerd

Tonight after work I watched an episode of Elementary, on Hulu, as I finished marking and cutting the hem of a choir skirt for a friend. Then I went upstairs and listened to Nova, on PBS (the program was on animal language...really interesting for something I have never given any thought to) as I sewed the hem of the skirt. I hung the skirt and got ready for bed. Then when I was comfy I got on FB to a group I follow (they accepted my friend request, but I have to admit I just stalk them for their pictures). This group posts pictures and clips from their wilderness cams. I am rather addicted. My bff got me hooked a few years ago with the pictures his camera captured. (My favorite was the raccoons playing!) But on the FB group I have seen bear, elk, mountain sheep, wolves, mountain lions, cougars, badgers, otters, lynx and bobcats. I LOVE IT!

Wednesday

When you know it’s Wednesday,
but HOW can it only be Wednesday?
And life feels blue.
And you get to work
to see that someone
left you some love to get through
Wicked Wednesday!

Office Ducks

I noticed a duck outside my office window this morning.
I mentioned it to a co-worker, who said that there were actually two.
I was told to be careful because the male bit Tim, my insurance agent,
and chased Carol, our 70+-year-old back office manager.
Well, I wasn’t afraid of ducks,
so I grabbed my phone and went out the back door.
Daddy duck was keeping an eye on things,
while momma was tucked in the ivy keeping her eggs warm!
Cute!!!

Want Cake

My co-worker Bryan, is a twenty-something old man...
yes “Get off the Lawn” old man.
He is hilarious and obnoxious all the time.
This morning he sent me this picture of his cake.
He went to the grocery because he wanted BiRTHDay Cake.
No, it’s not for a birthday, he just wants cake!
So he asked the baker to write that on his cake.
Then he took it home and eat one slice.
Crazy guy!

Gift

I heard it said that waking up early
is a gift you give yourself.
It’s a gift of a life!
Because through discipline
you get things done.
And getting things done
is called living!!

Paper Towels

I read something that said
“The average person uses
45 pounds of paper towels each year.”
I’m a kitchen towel girl as a rule, but
I can tell you that I just finished the
roll of paper towels that I bough last fall.
The ones with the Fall motif.
I usually buy a plain white.
But I guess I was excited for autumn!
πŸ‚πŸπŸ‚πŸπŸ‚πŸπŸ‚πŸπŸ‚πŸπŸ‚πŸπŸ‚
So I enjoyed that roll of paper towels from
October all the way through April.... not!
I used the last one today.
Never again will I buy paper towels with pictures!

Earth Day

It is a beautiful day today! I slept late and then took the twin bridges to Henderson to get gas. Music up LOUD and the windows rolled down. Spring is glorious at this moment, with everything budding and blooming. A true delight after a wonderful winter. So, I decided it was too nice a day not to take a drive. I took the back rout to my old farm house in Kentucky. I love that drive. And even though I am happy not to be in that cute house any more, I truly miss the area. The rolling hills, the woods, the CUTE! I headed back to Evansville singing at full tilt with my playlist, my hair dancing in the wind....when a huge bug slammed into my cheek. My first thought was “Don’t panic”, it couldn’t have lived the break neck speed it collided with my, surely bruised cheek. But I am a girly girl and did indeed panic! Just where had the remains of the kamikaze insect gone????? Without taking my hands off the wheel or my eyes off the road, I took invintory. I couldn’t feel anything on me, but the windows were still down and my hair was everywhere. I rolled up the windows, yes I am a slave to my fear of replete kamikaze insect attacks. Then I realized, although my blouse is not low cut or revealing, it is not insect proof either. Cautiously I looked down....YEP the invader lives and I now feel VERY INVADED! Thankful that I had not tossed the crumpled napkin that was in my cup holder, I grabbed it and dove in for search and rescue. This was not one of those times that being blessed with abundance in the cleavage department made me happy. Icky icky icky! When the invader was located and removed (this is a good time to state that I did drive rationally through all this and there was no one anywhere near me... but if there had been I am sure they would have been laughing!) his little bee days were OVER! He was dead, wrapped in a napkin and tossed onto the floor-bord of my SUV.
I drove home, went into my tiny backyard and pulled all the weeds. Then I sprinkled bug killing granules all over my yard.
 Happy Earth Day!

My son sent me this picture of the mug rack
that he just put up in their cute kitchen.
I think it's charming and awesome.
He said, “Amanda is happy, so I am happy.”
He always wants to make his lady happy.

Childhood Foods

You know how you want to taste something you had as a kid?!
Every once in a while the thought of eating a can of spagettio’s sounds great, but when I do (ones every 5 years or so) I am hugely disappointed by the experience. Well a few weeks ago, I was picking a few things up at the grocery, and I came across canned spinach. As a kid, I remembered that I had kinda liked it. I remember having it with dinner. So it has been co-mingling in my pantry with the canned apricots that I love and the other staples I keep there. Until tonight. When I decided that I wasn’t hungry enough to make an entire dinner, but I was hungry. And there was that Popeye friendly food.. So I plopped it into a bowl and was kind of excited to have a blast from my past. Until I tasted it. Realized it needed major amounts of salt and then tried it again. It’s probably been 40 plus years since I had it last. And I am sure that in another 40 plus years I won’t be trying that again! Yuck
I like a fresh spinach and strawberry salad any time. But that canned stuff is not happening ever again! Ever!!!

Liver and curry won’t happen again either, just saying!

My Son

I was talking to my son today, about adulting and life. He makes me happy. I love the man he has grown into. I’m a very proud mamma! I love it when he says “Can you just be my friend for a minute?” Then he tells me something that he is dealing with. I am always so pleased at his adulting skills and his happy attitude. He is my pride and joy!

Stress

I watched two friends deal with stressful situations today. Both strong, confident, capable women, with truly stressful situations.
I was a bit surprised at their coping methods.
In this I found I was given the opportunity to ponder my own coping methods.
I guess no matter how prepared we think we are, or how well we have planned; there will always be hiccups in our lives. And when those road blocks, pot holes, land slides and typhoons hit our well calendared perfectly plotted life...
I will alway remember that everyone goes through these things. What’s when to remember the really important things are....to try and keep a happy attitude and your friends on speed dial!

Maps

I hung these maps on my hall wall.
To help me with my geography and
to remind me of where I want to go!

smArt

Let me start by saying that I am so very grateful to be part of this generation upon the Earth. We, that’s a spontaneous all of us we, are living better and longer than those that came before us. And if I come off sounding spoiled and ungrateful, I apologize.
I have a smart phone. It is my constant companion. I am not ashamed to acknowledge that my phone, although not the latest or greatest is far smarter than I am. But I am okay with that. My computer at work was just upgraded, and I am struggling with it. I am also quick to praise and thank the younger coworkers who are more adept at understanding and conquering these new challenges.
I do not have a Roomba, although the thought of my floors (my least favorite chore) getting clean without me is pleasing, I think that the little critter would give me cause to gripe. So I don’t want one.
I do however own a High-Efficiency washing machine. When I bought it, it was the first new thing I had bought all by myself. The price for the washer and dryer was fare, and it was the first new laundry set that I had ever bought. I will be honest, I did not do any homework. I knew it was a trusted brand and I was purchasing it from a reputable establishment. I just wanted something all mine so I did not have to schlep to the laundromat in my new town. Little did I know, and with the first wash load I found out that my washer is a Genius washer.
And I am genius not so much. The washer weighs the load and only uses the amount of water that it requires. It locks the lid so as to not use more electricity that it has to. I am all for conservation and going green. But when I want to open the lid of my washer ten times I should be able to. Or if I want to have the thing sit for two days half full just to soak, it should do just that. But no... it’s little High Efficient self thinks it knows better than me. So I flipped the circuit breaker. It will sit and soak as long as I want it’s HE self to do so!
Lots of four letter words poured out of my mouth over this silly misplaced HE tool today.

It’s cleaning day here in my little house. And I think I may need an adult beverage.

Last Snow

It snowed this morning. I dusted an inch or so off my car.
As I spent my morning working toward getting to enjoy the snow
It welted away. I think it will be the last snow of the season.
I loved this winter but Spring is on its way.
I’m ready for a new beginning.

Morning Drive

I went for a drive the other morning.
I dove along Kentucky roads that I love.
There were no deer,
maybe because there were very bad storms the night before.
I saw the new Grist Mill on 8121. (Ooops 2181)
I saw the old barn on 144 finally fell down.
I was glad they moved that white car out first.
I saw so many cows.
There had been a tree down on one of those little roads.
I saw the truck that has been hiding in the woods,
was now in clear view.
I watched Eddie filling up his flat bed
down at Webber’s Corner
It was a lovely morning drive.

Good Read

I feel blessed that I am living with the best technology ever!
Audio books are in my estimation one of the best perks of our generation.
I can multi task and be read a book at the same time.
I can be reading and driving at the SAME time, it’s glorious!
Currently I am reading a totally girly book, no sizzle in the sand.
But it’s charming and makes me laugh out loud!
I love a good read!!

April 1st

As the first day of April turned to dusk and the gray sky was pouring rain, I was driving home. The rain is coming down in sheets and the river is rising. The river is gray to reflect the overcast sky.
There was an impatient truck that had to hit his brakes as he sped around me at the curve on River Road. Just in time to see the line of tail lights stopped at the casino as the police and the news reporters were keeping the traffic out of the way of the tow truck who was pulling another truck out of the external wall of the casino! Sad April Fools Day for someone.
As Riverside Road turned into the 69 Highway, I passed a section of woods that is still bare and skeleton like. But hiding among the tall twig like trees are ghost like trees covered in tiny white blossoms. The blossoming trees, at dusk, in the rain... look like scary ghosts hiding in the frightening dark woods. Then I turn off the highway and head down the road that reminds me of Mayberry.
Then I’m home, safe from rain, wild drivers and scary woods at dusk.
April 1st is over!

Happy Easter!
