DREAMS

I dreamt about going to see an old friend. I saw his family, had lunch with them and sat in a room with his family. Some I recognized and some were new. I saw his siblings and their kids and grandkids. I saw his mom who looked old to me. (I think it’s funny that I dream in the now that I don’t even know.) As I waited and spoke with lots of people, my friend didn’t come. I took my lunch basket and as I was leaving, my friend walked through the door. He was hurrying through a room. But he stopped, we saw each other. He looked different. But my desire to see him was filled.

I have not seen that friend in about 35 years. He was such a huge part of my life for many formative years.

I know that his imprint on my life has been such a good influence. I don’t think of him often, but I guess my subconscious still does.

SATURDAY SURPRISE

I worked this morning and as I was at the office John had a friend over. I was glad to see him hanging out with one of his buddies. I assumed they were watching some sporting event or spend their time saving the world on call of duty. But when I walked in the front door to an amazing smell, I found out just what they had been up to this morning!

Dave is an avid apple pie baker, and today he taught John how to bake the most wonderful apple pie I have ever tasted.
If any of John’s other friends want to spend a Saturday teaching any other domestic delights, I am okay with that!!!

WOLF MOON TODAY

Today, you’ll be able to see 2024’s first full moon, the “Wolf Moon.” January’s full moon is called the wolf moon because of two long-held beliefs: That wolves tend to howl most this time of year, and that they howl at the full moon.

Interestingly, both of these beliefs are sort of accurate. According to experts, wolves do indeed have seasonal cycles in which they are more vocal. These cycles align with their breeding season, which means in many places, they are starting to crescendo toward their peak around this time of year. And while wolves don’t actually howl at the full moon, the full moon does tend to help them see prey better, leading to excited, happy howling as they hunt.

DINNER IS SERVED

When I was a teenager, I went to Huntington Beach, California.
And of all the wonderful things I saw there, it was the earthenware, kiln baked, hand painted dinner wear that I fell in love with.
Stained in brown with a cobalt stripe. I had my heart set on getting a set for my hope chest.
A few years went by, and life happened.
On a day in May, 1986 I bought a boxed set of solid white Corelle dinner wear.
My white dishes served me well  for nearly 38 years. My children and their friends all used those plates. My grandchildren have used those plates. They are still a great set all stacked in my cupboard.
But…
Today I got the most lovely set of earthenware ceramic dinnerware.
They are more rugged than the stacked white ones in my kitchen.
They are heavy, so much heavier than the ones I’ve used for decades.
They are dark and so solidly sturdy.
And after fourty years, my girlish heart is delighted!

Come for dinner! I’ll show you!!!

P.S. I was so in love with my new tableware that my white dishes got a new home in an out of my reach cupboard and I ordered an additional set of the new! Lovely

ARTHRITIS

Arthritis is the swelling and tenderness of one or more joints. The main symptoms of arthritis are joint pain and stiffness, which typically worsen with age.

My finger joints get pinkish red, then they hurt for a couple days. The outcome is that they grow just a bit larger, and tend to hurt now and then.
My knees do it too.

I don’t mind getting older. I actually think I’m rocking 57. Keeping up on the best practices to keep living well is a constant.

EDNA FOR PRESIDENT

Edna knows she's the best and she doesn't hide it. Her lack of modesty is equalled only by her intuition.
Due to her combination of genius-level intellect and craziness, Edna is a magician of fashion. Edna's criticisms of fashion can come off as unpleasant at times, but are exaggerated to the point of which we find them to be comical. Edna prefers to always think about the future, finding dwelling on the past to be distracting from the present, as demonstrated by her line "I never look back, dahling, it distracts from the now" and thus has proven capable of determining the needs of her superhero clientele before they have the opportunity to finalize their ideas themselves. Her personality has been described as "brassy" and "no-nonsense". Edna can be described as "a gifted designer, an assertive life coach and a witty talker," using her mind and intelligence as a means of solving everyday issues. Edna’s "bold and eccentric attitude" is rivaled only by her considerable talent.
Edna "doesn't take crap from anyone" yet "she does so with poise and pride."

MY FAVORITE QUOTE

TRUE EXPLORATION

Antonia Quirke said, as she wrote about the islands off the western coast of Italy…
… without adornment… drop off the circuit, to move against the current, to explore in the raw

I believe this is how true exploration is done right!

PERUSING AND PURGING

I have been working on revamping, organizing and purging the past few weeks. I’m currently working on purging my horde of magazines.
I have saved a few travel guides, a couple of my favorite catalogs and the magazines I truly do want to read.
But let me just say, most of my Travel magazines were a huge waist of time. I don’t travel like the rich or famous, I travel like the romantic I am and don’t need advice on five star caviar and $230 swim suites. I also think all those Cosmo type mags are nothing more than glossy adverts. Mens Health is still one of the best reads for fitness, food and frisky what’s what.
Sadly, many of the periodicals I have purchased and hung onto for far too long, only give a trickle of the insight, information and influence I was hoping for.
So I will continue to peruse the baskets full of printed kindling I have collected, until I have determined, to my satisfaction that there is nothing more to glean and I can purge from this corner, my collection of magazines.

LIFE IN SNAPSHOT

60 MINUTES BEFORE BED

1. Spend the first 20 minutes on before bed tasks.
Pack tomorrow’s lunch. Load the last of the days dishes into the dishwasher, tidy the throughs and put away shoes. Give everything one last tidy.

2. Spend the next 20 minutes on personal hygiene.
Shower, brush teeth, cleanse face. Lotion everywhere! Wipe down bathroom.

3. Spend the last 20 minutes relaxing.
Listen to soothing music. Read or journal/ blog. This is a great time to do some deep breathing.
