MADE ME SMILE

Healthline: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition that involves:

• Compulsions. These symptoms involve things you feel you have to do in a specific way...

*******

I can no longer deny it. My beloved has a mental health disorder. I’ve known for some time, of course, but now it has a name. I’ve spoken of my husband’s compulsion for routine and order. Every other day he prepares an omelet for breakfast—with ham and cheese, one slice of toast with butter and jelly, two inches of banana, a bunch of grapes, and coffee with cream. IT NEVER VARIES! Other days he has 5.3 oz. of Chobani Yogurt with half an orange and sliced banana. Accompanied by one slice of toast and coffee. IT NEVER VARIES!

Tools are laid out the night before, and after preparing, every pan and utensil MUST be washed before a bite is taken. This is not a complaint—merely an observation. I could go on for hours about his exercise routine: precisely 20 laps in the pool, 60 minutes on the walking loop, 10 minutes on the rowing machine…

The mystery... is how John could be happily married for 60 years to a woman who enjoys a breakfast of corn on the cob, or vegetable soup, or pizza, or a grilled cheese and tomato sandwich… and who exercises when the spirit moves her. Sometimes he simply stares and shakes his head; other times he takes my picture.

Go figure. Just goes to prove… You can fall in love with anybody.
