Margarette
I met Margarette today.
She stopped by my office before heading to Germany tomorrow. She is going to see her younger sister. I helped her get her things in order, and she told me stories.
When she was a girl of 12, she and her grandmother had been working in their vineyard. That afternoon an old gypsy woman came to them, selling ribbons. The gypsy took the girl's hand, and told her that one day she would move to America and marry a man named Frank. Many years later, as she was a young bride in New Albany, Indiana, she remembered the gypsy. Margarette had moved to the Hoosier state when she and Frank were married.
One day, she and Frank had taken a Sunday drive; westward along the Ohio river. When they drove through what is now the historic district of Evansville, Margarette knew she was home. She and Frank bought two turn of the century houses, restored them, and helped bring a neighborhood back to life. She has since restored many other homes. Twice she has moved to the west side of town, but she always comes back to where she feels at home.
Each year Margarette takes this trip to Germany to see her sister. She spends a month or so there. They travel and explore together. One year, during a hot summer, they were driving through the country side when Margarette told her sister she would like a pesche. Her sister said she shouldn't use the old words from their small town, but use the correct German pronunciation; Pfirsiche. As they drove, the came across a farmers market. There on the hand painted sign read “PESCHE”, and Margarette beamed with older sister pride.
Pesche and Pfirsiche are the Italian and German words for Peaches.
Years later, Margarette was again in her hometown in Germany. This time she was walking through the church with her aunt. Her aunt began to tell her that the church was built back in the 1700’s, and that Italian artisans were hired to paint the frescos within the church. These Italian artists brought their families, and their way of life. They helped to settle the small town, and there they stayed. One of the things they brought with them for Italy were the Pesche that they planted all over the country side. That is how a German woman knows Pfirsiche as Pesche.
As we waited for her confirmation to arrive and her paperwork to be completed, she told me of her love for the area we live in. She told me of the towns beginnings, and the history. We talked about gardening and neighborhoods, about the river and the bug population.
There are people that I have met in my life time that are amazing. I am blessed to have met Margarette. As I walked her to the door, this seventy something beauty hugged me, then she said "There is always a reason people come into your life!" I smiled, that's something I always say! I hope she has a wonderful visit with her sister, I hope the trip is happy and magical, I hope she finds fresh Pesche.
When she gets back to our little "Delta" as she calls it here, she is taking me for a tour. I can hardly wait!!

Beavers
Wild life fascinates me. I have always had a love for buffalo, they are so majestic and noble. Farm animals like horsed, cows, chicken, and sheep are beautiful in their charming homey farmy way. I love the raccoon , squirrel and deer; living here in the mid-west has given me the chance to see so many deer. I loved the day I watched a young deer play with a barn cat in the hay field by my home in Kentucky, it was a wonderful sight. Earlier this year I saw a beaver up the hill from a neighbors farm. I was amazed to see the creature, astonished by its size, and delighted to watch it sprint to safety each time a truck would pass by. I fell in love with beavers that day. Last weekend as I was exploring some back-roads near the Ohio river, I saw something in the road. It is all too common to see a dead raccoon, skunk or squirrel on the road. As I was driving, and slowed down a bit, I still couldn't make out just what this little thing was. The area was beautiful, with forest surrounding me, a home here and there. As I got closer to this stationary thing in the road, all of the sudden it hopped up and started to run for safety. To my surprise and delight it was a small beaver. Oh my gosh it was so darling! When beaver run they hop, and it made me giggle. I can't even describe just how darling this cutie was. I totally fell in love with that little beaver !
There is a great documentary put out by PBS on Beavers. It's on Netflix, and on PBS, I added the link below. Just in case you want to fall in love with these darling rodents also!

Programming
I don't watch tv often, and when I do... Well, my kids say I watch old lady programming. I say " I just DON'T like stupid programming."
But...did you know, that the National Geographic channel has a program called the 'Science of Stupid.' It brakes down stupid, by using smarts. I like this! Just saying!

Judith
My neighbor Judith; I met her when I moved in, but I haven't seen her in a few weeks. I ask another neighbor if he had seen her. He told me that she isn't doing well, and that her siblings come to check on her. I left a note on her door yesterday morning. And this evening she came to visit. She is probably my mothers age, and in poor health. We chatted for a bit, she told me about her daughter, and shared a good use for apple cider vinager. She told me she has been interested in astrology all her life. She said she doesn't have many friends. I walked her back to her home when I could tell she was getting too tired. I thanked her for visiting with me.
I had had an emotional day today. Maybe this was God reminding me of how amazing my life is and how blessed I am. I am grateful for the reminder and for my neighbor!

Happy Friday
I met a young man on my way to work. His name was
J. Chambers. He is a sheriff’s
deputy.
He pulled me over, and I was stumped as to why. He said my temporary
plates were expired. He took 12 minutes to look up my information and write me
a warning. Then he instructed me on calling the dmv to get that sorted out. I
put my registration and license away, buckled up and once again J. Chambers was
tapping on my window. I opened the door, and he informed me that he was
mistaken, he had read the date on my temp plate wrong, and I am still good for
another month. He asked for the warning paper back and said nothing will go on
my record. I was 10 minutes late for work. The date is printed clearly on the temporary
plate. Perhaps a bit more training is needed. Happy Friday!
*Irony: When I got home Friday evening...my new plates where in the mailbox! There you go J. Chambers!!

1949
As I left the office tonight, chatting with a couple of my coworkers, I happened to look at the parking lot of the nearby hotel. My heart skipped a beat and I got all excited. The girls I was with didn't quite get my enthusiasm. But I was smitten! The parking lot was full of old trucks and hot rods!
This weekend, here in my little bit of Mayberry, they are having the Frog Follies. I don't know what the name of the event has to do with it, because to the best of my research, and I have done my homework on the matter, and asked quite a few people as well, it has nothing to do with frogs. But its all about classic vehicles. I can tell you, this girl is stoked! I took a drive around the lot and lusted from a distance. There will be a race this weekend, and nothing newer that 1949 can register.
I told my daughter about my weekend plans, she said "Old trucks and old men"! She knows what I like! It's going to be a great weekend! YUM!

Thought of The Day
If you see an opportunity, pounce on it. Think it through, but don’t over-analyze. After weighing the risk against the reward, you’ll find that most often it’s best to try an idea and see what happens.
If it fails, learn the lessons and move on.

CHARLIE DANIELS
I am a proud American who believes that America has held - and still holds - a very sensitive and special place in the affairs of mankind on Planet Earth. I believe that America has been divinely blessed and protected in our two centuries plus of existence.
I believe that America has been a counter balance that has cancelled out a lot of tyranny, evil and conquest and, admittedly, we have made a lot of mistakes, but on balance we have exerted a certain Pax Americana in the international affairs of mankind.
It took a lot of old fashioned guts for the Continental Congress to stand up to the world's mightiest military and tell them that we demanded our independence, even at the peril of going up against a far superior force on land and sea with a ragtag army of untrained citizens, many who had to supply their own firearms.
It took courage above and beyond for Abraham Lincoln to push the country into a Civil War that he knew beyond a shadow of a doubt would divide this nation for decades.
It took guts to give the order for American troops to storm the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, straight into the face of artillery and machine gunfire, wave after wave being cut to ribbons by German shore emplacements.
The history of this nation is written in the blood and courage of men who stood in the face of overwhelming odds, politicians, soldiers, statesmen and ordinary citizens who sought to do the right thing regardless of the cost or the consequences.
Well, ladies and gentlemen of the United States Congress, it seems that that particular pen has run out of ink. The courageous politicians that once championed this nation have been replaced, for the most part, by a breed of milksop, politically correct, scared of their own shadow, pushover, pathetic excuses for public servants who are supposed to be representing a constituency of citizens who have to live with the circumstances of their timid folly.
You don't even have the courage to face down an out of control president, even when he makes a deal with the devil. Don't you bunch of timid capons even care what kind of world you're leaving to your children and grandchildren, not to even mention the rest of us? Are you really party partisans before you're parents and grandparents or even human beings?
Be honest with yourselves a minute, go into the bathroom and look in the mirror and ask the person you see this question.
"Do I really believe that Iran will not use the money we're releasing to them to finance terrorists to kill Americans, and, when, not if, but when, the Iranians develop their nuclear device, will they really use it against America and Israel?"
You can’t hide from the truthful answer to that question forever, an answer will be required of you one day.
You have allowed Obama to tilt the Supreme Court so far to the left that they're little more than a shameful extension of the Executive Branch.
You have talked for decades about the porous southern border but have done absolutely nothing about it.
You have allowed cities in this nation to declare themselves sanctuary cities where they protect the worst of the worst criminal aliens, American citizens paying an awful price for your silence.
You watch an impossible National Debt balloon completely out of control knowing full well that a day of reckoning is coming that will seriously curtail the quality of life for coming generations.
You allow corrupt government agencies like the IRS to run over the very people you are sworn to protect and allow the entitlement society to expand exponentially while you actually entertain the idea of raising taxes on those who still work and shoulder the burden.
You compose a third of the constitutionally mandated ruling system and you shirk your duty
and allow this nation to move a little closer to the edge every day.
and allow this nation to move a little closer to the edge every day.
I wish you bunch of sold-out, jaded, burned-out hacks would just go home and let some people who still have some vision and whose consciences haven't been seared past the point of reminding them when they're wrong take over and start to claw this nation back on to the path of sanity,
Your ratings are in the single digits, your morals are in the gutter, your minds are on self-preservation and somewhere along the way you traded your honor for political expediency.
You've violated your oaths, you've betrayed your country you've feathered your nests and you've sat on your hands while an imperial president has rubbed your noses in the dirt time after time.
You're no longer men, you're puppets, you're caricatures, jokes, a gaggle of fading prostitutes for sale to anybody who can do you a political favor.
“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
What do you think?
Pray for our troops and the peace of Jerusalem.
God Bless America

Word...By Any Other Name...Who Knew!!
I have had a lot of issues with my Word program over the last few months. I will be the first to admit that I am probably the main problem with it. My darling daughter has been trying to get me to upgrade to something that is newer and better for some time. However, I am not real hip on big changes to my tech. I know just enough to get by, and even then I screw it all up. So when I truly needed an intervention today, I knew who to call. Not only did my 'brains and beauty' daughter help me, but she and Cole got me all lined up, showed me all the little perks and taught me the fun stuff too. They are mind boggling amazing. I am glad they are so smart, and so willing to keep me up to date on all the new stuff. I love these kids so much. And when I feel stupid about all the new technology that she is so great at, I just need to remember that I taught her how to use a spoon! All is good!
Maroon 5 - Sugar
"Sugar"
I'm hurting, baby, I'm broken down
I need your loving, loving
I need it now
When I'm without you
I'm something weak
You got me begging, begging
I'm on my knees
[Pre-Chorus:]
I don't wanna be needing your love
I just wanna be deep in your love
And it's killing me when you're away, ooh, baby,
'Cause I really don't care where you are
I just wanna be there where you are
And I gotta get one little taste
[Chorus:]
Your sugar
Yes, please
Won't you come and put it down on me?
I'm right here, 'cause I need
Little love, a little sympathy
Yeah, you show me good loving
Make it alright
Need a little sweetness in my life
Your sugar
Yes, please
Won't you come and put it down on me?
My broken pieces
You pick them up
Don't leave me hanging, hanging
Come give me some
When I'm without ya
I'm so insecure
You are the one thing, one thing
I'm living for

Tragedy at Sea
My friend Karin got back from her two week excursion. She and her man went to England. They flew first class, (I love the new sleeper seats in first class) They toured London, then took a rail tour of part of England. They took a Cunard transcontinental cruise home.
On the way home a crew members was lost at sea. The ship turned around as soon as they found out he was missing, The entire crew and every passenger scoured the water ways from deck and balcony, at a very slow speed, in search of the missing man. The coast guard also searched. The search was called off after a full day of searching and bad weather. What a tragedy.
My heart goes out to all that knew and loved him.

Second Grade and A Plan
My friend Tim came into my office yesterday. After talking shop, I asked him how his kids were doing now that they were back to school. He said they were doing just fine. His daughter is a friend magnet, so easy to get right back into the swing of things. His boy just started 1st grade. When Tim asked his son how he liked first grade, his son replied "Dad, I'm not going to second grade next year." Surprised, since this was the first day of 1st grade, Tim asked "Why not?" His son answered "Because I am going to go to prison and talk to the people there, about God." Tim, being a very dry fellow, quickly responded "Second grade is too young, it's not legal." To which his son said "Well that's my plan dad."
And that was that! Onto the second day of first grade!!!

Commercialization
Saturday, just after noon:
There is a knock at my door. I don't have a lot of guests, so I turn the tv off and answer the door.
There was a nice looking man in a red shirt. He handed me a tiny little pamphlet and said he was here to invite me to church. He asked if I had one already. I said I may have. He repeated the name of his church and said the pamphlet would tell me how to get to heaven. He asked if I was looking to go to heaven. I said "I have religion, I'm not looking for a church". I nicely tried to give him his pamphlet back, but he wouldn't take it and he walked away.
I put the pamphlet in the trash.
This interaction made me think about the feelings I have for religion.
I am closer now, then ever before with my Father in heaven. We talk all the time. I think that bond, that connection is vital in knowing who I am, being happy with myself and my life.
I feel that organized religion distorts the presence of God in ones life. It's just like Santa Clause representing Christmas. A church is just the commercialization of religion.
I agree with Abraham Lincoln, who said...
"When I do good, I feel good. When I do bad, I feel bad. That is my religion."
I have a close relationship with God, but I don't buy into the commercialization that is religion.
I am grateful for the man in the red shirt. He made me think, and helped me reconfirm my beliefs.
I don't need a pamphlet, I'm taking my trash out now.
