MY DARK CLOSET

Sometimes I feel like my heart break is going to consume me. Like if I just let go and close my eyes I could slip away into oblivion. And no one will even know.

I don’t suffer from depression, but I think everyone has a closet deep inside, that no one else ever sees. One that you keep closed, keep locked from the outside. Because if you open it, all the pitch black pain, loneliness, hurt, betrayal, heart ache, will swallow you up.

I think that for some of us, it’s easier to stay there, just outside the closet door. Or maybe with the door just cracked open a bit. Because falling into oblivion is so much easier than moving away from it.

I am an optimist. I am positive. I look for the bright side. I I serve others, I try to do good deeds. I am polite, uplifting, encouraging. I am happy.

Yet I have a closet that I hide away.

My life guru once told me to put all the past in the closet and burn it to the ground. And at that time I did. It was a huge blessing. Perhaps burning it down is something you need to do periodically.

Because the cold black from my closet is trying to ooze out and grab my heart again. And I know if I don’t put it back in the closet and lock the door. I may not recover from the heart ache that awaits me.

IT’S CALLED LOVE

“Some people care too much. I think it’s called love.”
– A.A. MILNE, WINNIE-THE-POOH

QUESTION

Q:These questions are about other peoples problems and how I can help solve them.

A: Unless asked...I do not want to solve anyone else's issues. I have enough of my own.

Thank you!

MAKE YOUR BED

When Meg graduated from middle school, Admiral McRaven spoke at her ceremony. He started off with “Making your bed”.

I am sure the teens that sat there did not remember his speech. But I did. I have reread his book several times and it never fails to empower me.

It’s a very quick read. I listened to it while on the treadmill this time.

I encourage everyone to hear his guidance and life lessons.

After all, everyday should start with making your bed… even if you are a Sugar Cookie or the main attraction at your own circus.

I recommend this book, repeatedly!

LIVE

Some people have everything
and still feel empty.
Enjoy the meal.
Sit with your family.
Laugh at something stupid.
Thank God for what you already have.
Don't chase a better life so hard
that you forget to live this one.

QUESTION

 Question:

If you had a message to the world, what would it be? What do you believe strongly in?

Answer:

Be positive. Be positive. Be positive.

Show everyone love and kindness.

Do service for everyone you come across. (If you struggle with depression or anxiety, do things for other people. It will help your head and your heart.)

Have confidence in yourself. You are perfect as you are. No one wants you to be someone else.

Don’t worry or dwell on the past. Everything that has happened in your life, like stepping stones, have brought you where you are today.

Each day, strive to be a better version of you!

You are the only person you have to wake up with every day. Learn to like yourself (it’s okay to reinvent who you are, until you become that best version of you). Then you will be able to love yourself.

Get a hobby that creates something. Try several, until you find the ones you like the best.

Love is the most wonderful magic. The more you give away, the happier you will be.

Read the Bible and Pray. You are never alone.

RIDE TIME

Last week we went for a ride through Hawesville along the Ohio River. We took the river view to Cloverport, then we road the highway to Hardensburge. The road home took us through Fordsville to Whitesville and back to town. It was a lovely ride.

Yesterday, we were on the road again. This time we headed north. It was a bit chilly when we started out, but it was a perfect October day! We planned to do the Octoberfest in Jasper, but they had one in Huntingburg too. And there was another in French Lick! We made lots of stops but being on the bike gave me the very best view of everywhere! We took a walk through the Jasper City Mill, i highly recommend this. The craftsmanship is beautiful! We went to Ferdinand State Park. (I love it there!) The lakes water level was low, but it was still beautiful. And we found a creek on our walk through the woods. It was awesome! What a wonderful day!

QUESTION

“ One True Sentence”

Question:  Pick a defying moment in your life. What happened? What did you do? How did it affect you? (No judgment…just write)

Answer: Twice in my life, I have walked away from a life that did not fit me. A life that was not in a line with a healthy environment.

The first time I was in my late teens, still a juvenile, but knowing I had to get out of the abusive environment I had grown up with. The option that were before me were scary. But I trusted in God and moved forward. That decision turned out to be the best thing I ever did for my adolescent self. And it taught me so much about who I wanted to be as an adult.

…..

The second time, I was in my early forties. I left a marriage that had fallen apart in the beginning and I just kept the ball rolling because I was afraid to move on.

Again, I trusted in God, and this move was the best thing I ever did for myself. I let go of an unhealthy and depressing life. And found myself.

Question: Same life moment seen through someone else’s eyes.

Answer: I think most people who knew me, saw what I was doing as the right steps. Not all agreed with me. But I invested in myself, and it was the best investment I have ever made.

Question : The fairy tale version.

And she lived happily ever after.

Question : Put this into one bold sentence .

Answer:

If your goals in life do not fit your life. Change it!

GOOD READ

I just finished reading (listening to)

“The Art of Stillness”.                by Pico Iyer.

It was a great quick book that points out how much we all need to pause our lives and let quiet stillness into our routine.

It gave me that reminder I needed to specifically make a point of carving out time to just unplug and do nothing so my body and mind can simply reset.

I love talking with my good friends. Even messaging fills my social bucket. I chat with my son several times a week, and even though we live so far apart, it keeps us close.
