HAWAII

Oceans & Forests of Green

As a girl from Phoenix, I could only imagine the "green" my heart longed for but never knew. When I first came to the Midwest in 2013, the green I saw out that airplane window blew me away. My heart will always belong to the Kentucky woods. However, I have seen that the world is far bigger than I ever imagined, and the green that I longed for my entire life is vast!

I have been to Hawaii and I saw things that fascinated me. Views that truly can be classified only as "Paradise." It was a wonderful experience, one I would like to do again...at a slower more in depth pace.
Hawaii was a much needed moment for me.

Eight years earlier, almost exactly, I sat on the beach in Cali and contemplated my life. I reflected and charted a new path. That was the best decision I had ever made for myself.

I sat on the beach in Honolulu, watching the stars, the storms, the city lights. I walked in the water, feeling so small compared to the vast Pacific Ocean. I pondered many things. I contemplated my life. I reflected and started charting a new path.

This weekend I traveled to Virginia. I have wanted to see this state for over 30 years. To put reality to the stories I was told so long ago. Virginia is beautiful! While there I checked things off my Life List.
I saw the splendor and simplicity of Monticello. It was as wonderful as I knew it would be. I also  went to Virginia Beach. I walked in the Atlantic Ocean. I contemplated my life. I reflected and reviewed my new path.

I can honestly say that I prefer the woods to the water, however, when it comes to the stepping stones in my life, the oceans defiantly helps put things in perspective.

You

You set the bar
You were everything I always wanted
You were perfect for me
You are gone
He's not you

Fog

How do I put one foot in front of the other and move forward when I can't seem to see through the fog? My world is wrong, everything is just not right. I feel like the giant hole in my heart is the black hole sucking in my foggy days.

2:24am

I have a hard time falling asleep.
I have difficulty keeping my mind free of thoughts.
When I finally do sleep, my dreams are scary.
Then I'm awake for hours, some nights I'm up for good.
I miss the sounds of you. I miss you eek

A life of plans

Sent to me by a friend, thank you G.G.S
I have a dear friend that explained that in grief not only are you mourning for that someone that you've lost but you are mourning a life with plans that are totally gone. Finding a new plan and a new life takes an amazing amount of strength and also time.  Be patient with yourself and grieving is personal, no one can tell you how long or when you should be done. I'm sorry you are struggling.

Thoughts

You lost my trust by all the lying.
I lost your trust by telling the truth.
I pushed you away because you could not be honest with me.
You pushed me away because your new lies didn't sync with my truths.

If you ever choose to be completely honest and follow your heart, you know how to find me.

a million times

A million times a day I want to share things with you.
And a million times a day I have to painfully remember that you are not here.
I hurt every single time.

Thank You

I am grateful for the sweet cards, flowers and treasures that I have been given. I am so grateful for the people around me who care about me. You have all been so supportive for so long. Your love for me, and your determination to not let me drown goes beyond my gratitude level. I am numb, my world feels like a war zone, but you are keeping my head above water. I have never felt utter devastation and hopelessness like this before, yet you are all strong for me. I wouldn't be able to make it through a day without you right now. I adore you all. Thank you so much for caring about me.

KIDS

My Son and his Lady sent me treasure, so that I would know I am loved and my Kentuckiana Kids have made sure that I am not alone while I fall apart. (Suicide watch I think.)
I am so greatful for wonderful kids in my life! ❤️

First Step

Where do you want to go?
How much do you want to risk?

Something Just Like This

SOMETHING JUST LIKE THIS
Chainsmokers & Coldplay

I've been reading books of old
The legends and the myths
Achilles and his gold
Hercules and his gifts
Spiderman's control
And Batman with his fists
And clearly I don't see myself upon that list
But she said, where'd you wanna go?
How much you wanna risk?
I'm not looking for somebody
With some superhuman gifts
Some superhero
Some fairytale bliss
Just something I can turn to
Somebody I can kiss
I want something just like this
Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo
Oh, I want something just like this
Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo
Oh, I want something just like this
I want something just like this
I've been reading books of old
The legends and the myths
The testaments they told
The moon and its eclipse
And Superman unrolls
A suit before he lifts
But I'm not the kind of person that it fits
She said, where'd you wanna go?
How much you wanna risk?
I'm not looking for somebody
With some superhuman gifts
Some superhero
Some fairytale bliss
Just something I can turn to
Somebody I can miss
I want something just like this
I want something just like this
Oh, I want something just like this
Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo,
Oh, I want something just like this
Doo-doo-doo, doo-doo
Doo-doo-doo,
Where'd you wanna go?
How much you wanna risk?
I'm not looking for somebody
With some superhuman gifts
Some superhero
Some fairytale bliss
Just something I can turn to
Somebody I can kiss
I want something just like this
Oh, I want something just like this
Oh, I want something just like this
Oh, I want something just like this

HONESTY

I watched a clip this morning (because I don't know how to sleep) and this little boy was speaking about honesty and how it is vital. I wish everyone valued honesty. The lack of honesty can ruin lives. Enough said.

8/5/2017

Saturday August 5, 2017....the toughest day of my adult life. A new fork in the road. This one was the one that ripped my heart out. But it was my choice, it was the right choice for me. I left the toxic relationship behind. After the pain passes I am sure I will be healthier. But my heart will never be the same.

Gardener

I think my little garden is going to do well this year.
I see that in gardening; prep, time and devotion are extremely important. Like in a relationship!
(At least I know I will have tomatoes.)

Ending A Monday

I had dinner on my back porch tonight. (Pork fajita tacos, with roasted corn and sweet caramelized onions...home made!) The sky is slightly cloudy, tinged with sunset pink. The birds are singing and the leaves on the trees are making that calming sound I love. The breeze is cool, and my little garden of green is growing!
My shower is done, my hair smells like strawberries and the bed has freshly laundered sheets.
It's rather a nice evening!

GREEN BEAST

Just over a month ago my Tahoe died. I knew there was a problem, but I had no idea what. When I parked the car the evening before, it sounded funny and felt funny too. When I left for work the following morning it sounded like I was dragging a full sized refrigerator underneath. I pulled into the service station around the corner, and ALL the men in the shop came out to see what the sound was. One guy drove it around the parking lot, then another crawled underneath it. The all spoke in Boy Language... then the one guy said, "Ya, we can't help with that, but here is the number to a shop that can. It's going to be pricey." Well, with the number in my hand, I went to work, driving 40 miles an hour the entire way (that is the speed limit anyway). After work, I went to dinner with friends, so my car sat at work as we carpooled. When we arrived back at the parking lot, I put it in reverse, just to make sure it could still do that thing, then I drove it back to my apartment (dragging the full sized refrigerator underneath.)
I made it all the way home, just about ready to turn into my parking spot, and it stopped moving. The engine still worked, but that bad boy was not moving for nothing. I panicked and called my friend to help me push it the 15 feet to the parking spot. It was having none of that. It would not move an inch. I called AAA, and they sent a guy with a tow truck. He tried to push it with that big tow truck, but it wasn't moving. The tow truck guy had to unhook the drive shaft in order to push the Tahoe into place. And there it has sat for a month. My sweet man put a for sale add out on it. And he manned the responses and texts from all the would-be buyers.
I have since acquired a new vehicle, and I am very happy with it.
This last Thursday my apartment complex left a note on my door, letting me know that they will be resurfacing the parking lot next week and we will need to park elsewhere, Panic!!! So my sweet guy and I agreed to drop the price we were hoping for and say that it had to be sold this weekend. One of the interested parties put out a price and we excepted. Dillon and his brother Joseph came by last night to take a look. They liked what they saw and said they would be back this morning.
I spent most of the night searching for the title for the Tahoe. When I had exhausted myself and my options, I went online and expedited a copy. It cost more $$ than I thought it should, but it is done and it will be delivered to my office this week. I told Dillon that this morning and texted him a copy of the receipt. He gave me cash and now we are waiting for the tow truck to pick it up.

Dillon plans on restoring the Tahoe and driving it. He already has the new transfer case ready to put into it. He is a sweet shy kid, but he sure liked the way the Tahoe sounds when your rev that motor!

I love that Tahoe... my dear friend David gave it to me when I was in need. He used it daily and took adventures in it too. I was so very blessed by his kind gift. He always looked out for me. I loved being able to haul my kids and all their stuff in it. It is HUGE. I am grateful to by dear friend Bill, who worked on just about every part of that silly vehicle. He even bought the entire set of 2000 Tahoe manuals in order to keep it running smoothly. I sure enjoyed the days I would spend at his place in Casa Grand, catching some sun as he worked on the Green Beast! I too love the sound of the masculine engine. I loved bring it with me on my adventure to Kentucky. I am grateful for its size and the safety it provided as I hit black ice November 17, 2014, and rolled the Tahoe into a ditch. I was fine, the Tahoe took the beating. Yet, with some TLC from my neighbor Earl, it was road worthy again. Once again, I am grateful for those who took care of me and helped me get past that. I am grateful for Keith, who has taken care of my cars needs and helped me with my vehicle issues in Kentuckianna. Keeping up with the maintenance was tough for me, it is, after all, a boy job.
I have wanted to look for a smaller car for some time. When gas was $3+ a gallon, I was spending over $300 a month just to get to work. However, with living expenses and child support, a new car didn't fit into my life budget.
When the Tahoe died, I did panic. I did a lot of praying also. I was again blessed to find my new car for a good price and in a short time frame. I am grateful for Eliott, who went with me to look at cars, helped me when I needed his muscle and was there to me my bodyguard when I was unsure of my surroundings. Grateful again for Keith, who helped me look at cars, held my hand, is always my voice of calm, reason and knowledge. I am so grateful for my son, who is always supportive and wonderful, even from 15000 miles away. (He even looked for cars for me from Phoenix)
I am thankful for Dillon, and his excitement. I am so glad he sees beyond the broken and can see the potential in the Green Beast.

Saturday Afternoon

I have been doing a bit of work in my tiny garden this afternoon. All the tomato, squash and bean plants have been staked with tobacco sticks to keep them straight and tall. The grass has mostly been pulled around the beds, and I even removed a worm or two ( yes it was two) by hand. (Thank you Keith for the work gloves, that give me super human garden confidence that I would not have without  them!)
I am a bit reluctant to say what amazing  weather we are enjoying today. As my son just helped a friend move to a third floor apartment in the 115 degree heat in Phoenix. But... it is a delightful 77 degrees here in Kentuckiana, the breeze is stiff and cool and the sound of the wind in the trees and the birds singing is wonderful!
Sitting on my tiny patio, looking at my darling yard.... I am so grateful to live where I do. It's beautiful here. I love getting my hands dirty and watching things grow. I love every wonderful thing about the Midwest.
There are even birds having a bath in the gutter above my patio...charming!!!!

HaPPy FLaG Day

I flew into Kentuckianna 4 years ago today.
I came to spend a week with my best friend.
I was so excited.
As the plane landed in Evansville,
I was delighted and surprised to see how green it was.
As we drove over the Ohio River into Kentucky,
I was awestruck by the beauty of the green all around me.
Spending a week in the woods, way out in the country,
was a life changing magical event for me.
I am grateful to the Kentucky man who changed my life.
I lost my heart in Kentucky on Flag Day.
This is always going to be my favorite holiday!

The Optimist Creed

To be so strong that nothing
can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity
to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that
there is something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything
and make optimism come true.

To think only the best, to work only for the best
and expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others
as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on
to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times
and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself
that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger,
too strong for fear,
and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

ST PATRICK'S DAY

Today is St Patrick's Day. I think it would be nice to celebrate this holiday in Ireland where it is a huge event. I hope to do that some year.

There is a charming Irish pub in St Louis that I have had the pleasure to visit a couple times. It is old, for Midwest standards. It's dark and loud. It's everything I imagined an Irish pub to be. I like it there.

I will attempt to find something green to wear today. I'm not sure I own anything green. Green ranks right up there with yellow and orange for me. I avoid them.

No corned beef and cabbage today either. I already wished my red bearded leprechaun a happy day...
So I think I will just enjoy today being Friday!

A Few Nice Things

• Trees covered in white and pink blossoms.
• Snow flakes the size of corn flakes.
• Easter flowers covering a hill.
• Old weathered barns.
• Long drives on back roads.
• Crisp cold sunny days.
• Birds singing before the sun is up.
• The smell of hot banana bread.
• Audio books.
• Warm snuggly blankets.

Bird Feed

I made two bird feeders for my back yard. But it was still rare for me to see birds out there. So I left a pan of bird feed on the patio. I saw more birds. So, this weekend I sprinkled bird feed all over my tiny little yard. The weekend was cold, but sunny. Today is Monday and they are calling for snow this morning and rain after that. I think the birds must know that. There are dozens of birds in my yard! Blue Jays, Cardinals, big black birds and tiny little birds. Happy Day!

Timing Is Everything!

Finally ready for bed... yoga pants on the floor, next to the abandoned fuzzy socks. Pillows arranged perfectly and bed sheets and blankies all cozy. Feeling so ready for bed... then the Tornado Siren start to wail. I get up, put my yoga pants back on and my fuzzy socks too. And the sirens stop!
I looked at the radar, I think I'm safe to try this again!

TODAY

Today is my Granddaughters birthday.
I think.
She is five.
She has two big brothers.
The boys had birthdays in January.

I send my love to them daily.
I pray for them all the time.

I cannot express the longing to know them.
I may not be part of their world,
but they are part of mine.

I love them

MidWinter

Fact: Winter is officially half over! Today, February 3, at 5:37 pm., EST, marks the official midpoint of winter, the moment between the December Solstice and the March Equinox. You will really begin to notice the lengthening of the days and the increase of daylight.  In fact, from early February through early May, notice how the days are getting brighter and longer almost on a day-to-day basis!

CABLE CHALLENGED

My Kentuckia kids gave me a flatscreen TV for Christmas...I think it was so we wouldn't have to huddle in front of my old TV...and they love me.
Today is February 1st. So I thought maybe it was time to get the new screen out of the box and into the living room.
I read all the instructions, following each one...step by step. Not that I understand what all those input/output thingies are... but I did what it told me to do.
Honestly, I was feeling pretty good about this thing.
However, I had no working channels. Even though I did what the instructions told me.
So I texted a friend. I asked for her assistance. (She is a tech chick!) She was on her way home and said she would be at my place in two minutes. She is delightful! She came in and checked out all the connections and had the TV run through the set up again.
She was so sweet, step by step, walking through the installation process. Never even thinking that Angie could be the cause of the non functioning new device. But, being the non-tech chic that I am, I had never even connected the cable line from the wall into the cable box. Thus, no TV! Once we unearthed the cable line, had a really good laugh over my stupidity and hooked it up...Viola! The new flat screen works! Programming is at my fingertips and cable is happening! I thanked my dear friend, and she headed home, I turned the TV off and headed up to get ready for bed. I didn't want to watch it, I just wanted to know I could if I wanted to!
A good evening!

HAPPY

(Sometimes I wonder if what I do, not just the job, but the details and extra time I put in are noticed. Not that I want to be credited for this, but I always hope that my people feel my love.)

It is my habit to welcome my travelers home a couple days after they get settled back into their routine. Yesterday one of my favorite clients stopped into my office, just a day after they arrived back from a family vacation. She brought me a lovely card thanking me for my help. We chatted and she said she would call as soon as they are ready to take the next adventure.

I sent a snap-shot of the card to my man. Here is what he texted to me:

"Do you realize what you do for people?
You give them worry free Happy!"

I am glad my travelers appreciate what I do. But I am so grateful that my man sees it too. I love him!

Today, Monday, January 16, is said to be the most depressing day of the year.

New Years Day

January 1, 2017
I helped my friends move out of their old place. I think we all agree that moving is awful. But it's done and all the stuff is moved. We went to dinner with friends later. We celebrated the New Year.
We are all different, and we may not see eye to eye. But I love these people. I am glad they are my family!

God Bless America

Thanks goes to my friend Bob for this piece of musical history!

Frank Sinatra considered Kate Smith the best singer of her time, and said that when he and a million other guys first heard her sing "God Bless America" on the radio, they all pretended to have dust in their eyes as they wiped away a tear or two.
Here are the facts.... The link at the bottom will take you to a video showing the very first public singing of "GOD BLESS AMERICA". But before you watch it, you should also know the story behind the first public showing of the song.
The time was 1940. America was still in a terrible economic depression. Hitler was taking over Europe and Americans were afraid   we'd have to go to war. It was a time of hardship and worry for most Americans.
This was the era just before TV, when radio shows were HUGE, and
American families sat around their radios in the evenings, listening to their favorite entertainers, and no entertainer of that era was bigger than Kate Smith.
Kate was also large; plus size, as we now say, and the popular phrase still used today is in deference to her, "It ain't over till the fat lady sings".
Kate Smith might not have made it big in the age of TV, but with her
voice coming over the radio, she was the biggest star of her time. Kate was also patriotic. It hurt her to see Americans so depressed and afraid of what the next day would bring. She had hope for America, and faith in her fellow Americans. She wanted to do something to cheer them up, so she went to the famous American song-writer, Irving Berlin (who also wrote "White Christmas") and asked him to write a song that would  make Americans  feel good again about their country. When she described what she was looking for, he said he had just the song for her. He went to his files and found a song that he had written, but never published, 22 years before - way back in 1917. He gave it to her and she worked on it with her studio orchestra. She and Irving Berlin were not sure how the song would be received by the public, but both agreed they would not take any profits from God Bless America. Any profits would go to the Boy Scouts of America. Over the years, the Boy Scouts have received millions of dollars in royalties from this song.
This video starts out with Kate Smith coming into the radio studio with the orchestra and an audience. She introduces the new song for
the very first time, and starts singing. After the first couple verses, with her voice in the background still singing, scenes are shown from the 1940 movie, "You're In The Army Now." At the 4:20 mark of the video you see a young actor in the movie, sitting in an office, reading a paper; it's Ronald Reagan.
To this day, God Bless America stirs our patriotic feelings and pride
in our country.  Back in 1940, when Kate Smith went looking for a song to raise the spirits of her fellow Americans, I doubt whether she realized just how successful the results would be for her fellow Americans during those years of hardship and worry..... and for many generations of Americans to follow.
Now that you know the story of the song, I hope you'll enjoy it.
Many people don't know there's a lead in to the song since it usually starts with "God Bless America ....." So here's the entire song as originally sung.....  ENJOY!

BLUE LIGHTS IN MY REARVIEW WINDOW

I was helping my Kentuckianna kids move last night. Jay was in the Tahoe with me, and we were following behind Kim and Elliot's truck. We were driving on the Kentucky side of the Ohio river around 10:30pm, on a two lane highway, in the dark, in below freezing temps.
An hour or so before, my daughter texted to let me know she was in her first fender bender. She was alright, it was the other drivers fault, and my girl was her delightful self, making sure the other driver was at ease. She is so good!
My Kentuckianna girls and I were then talking about being pulled over by the police when I made the comment that I wasn't sure were my registration actually was.
Fast forward to 10:30 on the dark country road....
When in my rearview mirror I see blue lights flashing. Yep, they were for me! I pulled over, and then greated the nice young man in the uniform. He asked for my drivers license and registration. (Which, instinctively I knew just where to reach for when the moment presented itself.) As I handed it to him, I asked what he pulled me over for. He looked in the Tahoe and asked "Are you moving?" I said yes, and he said "As I passed you over that hill you swerved." Now I don't recall that but, it was windy, cold, dark and late. He was right I am sure. And "No" to his question; I hadn't been drinking. We chatted for a minute longer and he handed my verification back. No ticket or warning, I thanked him for checking on us, and he wished us a good night. He was nice. We took a short cut back to the kids place, and I was in my bed by midnight.
Interesting evening!

It's Snowing!

HOLIDAY CONCERT

I attended the Holiday Pops Concert at the
Victory Theater last night.
There were several orchestras and several choirs.
It was amazing to see how many instruments
and people they could get on the stage.
The choreography in moving everything
in and out throughout the show was wonderful.
The Victory Theater is beautiful. The inside is glorious.
It takes you back to a more amazing era.
The Christmas decorations were lovely
and seeing Santa was an extra treat.
It was a perfect way to spend a
wintery December night with friends!
