Sol + stice derives from a combination of Latin words meaning "sun" + "to stand still." As the days lengthen, the sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the sky.
As a major celestial event, the Summer Solstice results in the longest day and the shortest night of the year.
I don't know much about it, but with Goddesses and fairies, ancient folklore, mystery and romance, what's not to love?
I believe if we added more of the charm and romantic notions back into our everyday culture that modernization has lost, we would have less stress, more interaction, more happiness and just plain "More" to our lives.
I have the day off, so I plan on making the most of the longest day of the year. After all there are never enough reasons to celebrate!
