WEEDS

Yesterday they said the temperature hit 80, todays high is 45. Since I only worked a half day today I thought playing in the dirt would be a good afternoon diversion. So I weeded the front flower garden. There were so many healthy weeds. My gray gardening gloves may need tossed, I definitely need new gardening tools and in ready to go get tons of mulch and some new plants. But let me just say, after an hour of gathering felled branches and pulling huge weeds this girls body is done playing gardener.

H2o

The human body needs a lot of water to keep every function running properly. But honestly I struggle to drink enough. My goal is 60+ ounces each day. And when done correctly, this helps me to get my 10,000+ steps in everyday, since I am constantly walking down the hall to the powder room. Each day I start with a water bottle at my side, and I take a couple with me to the office, at night I keep one on my bedside table.
Water… it’s a good thing.

PERSPECTIVE

As a drive home from work yesterday, I saw someone riding a horse through a field. I has the opportunity to watch for several moments as I drove. My mind was taken from the things that I left unfinished at the office to a distracted state of zen. I haven’t ridden a horse in a very long time, but suddenly I remembered the feeling of freedom and intoxicating happiness. The weather was chilly and overcast, the rider was dressed warmly. The picture that moment made in my head was so refreshing. The work at my office, the traffic around me, the mental list of things I need to take care of personally, all melted away and I shared that moment of peace and contentment with the rider and his horse. It was lovely.

I am grateful for the moments that pull my perspective back into alignment.

UNBECOMING

RING OF FIRE

TIME FOR NEW IDEAS MAYBE

Kentucky has whiskey the whole world wants ($5 Billion export) but we have dry counties and outdated laws.

Kentucky has an old tobacco infrastructure that could grow some of the best Marijuana and hemp in the world, but you have to cross the river to purchase it.

Kentucky has the fastest race horses, but you can't place a bet in your new fancy hat in most of the state.

The global market is bigger than the Golden triangle. We need to send people to Frankfort that understand we are no longer comfortable with opportunities leaving our state.

GREAT ADVICE

Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.

Keep skunks, bankers, and politicians at a distance.

Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.

A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.

Words that soak into your ears are whispered, not yelled.

The best sermons are lived, not preached.

Forgive your enemies; its what GOD says to do.

If you don't take the time to do it right, you'll find the time to do it twice.

Don't corner something that is meaner than you.

Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.

It don’t take a very big person to carry a grudge.

You cannot unsay a cruel word.

Every path has a few puddles.

When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.

Don't be banging your shin on a stool that's not in the way.

Borrowing trouble from the future doesn't deplete the supply.

Most of the stuff people worry about ain’t never gonna happen anyway.

Don’t judge folks by their relatives.

Silence is sometimes the best answer.

Don‘t interfere with somethin’ that ain’t botherin' you none.

Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin’.

Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.

The biggest troublemaker you’ll ever have to deal with watches you from the mirror every mornin’.

Always drink upstream from the herd.

Good judgment comes from experience, and most of that comes from bad judgment.

Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin’ it back in.

If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try orderin’ somebody else’s dog around.

Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you’ll enjoy it a second time.

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

Most times, it just gets down to common sense.

VERY HUNGRY CATERPILLAR DAY

“The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a book of hope. Children need hope. You, little insignificant caterpillar can grow up into a beautiful butterfly and fly into the world with your talent.” -Eric Carle

It is a very special day. Not only is today the first day of Spring, but it is also Very Hungry Caterpillar Day!

THIS THING

Mayberry’s mommy bought this thing… that does this thing…

And then this happens!

MATTERS OF THE HEART

A picture of Dr. Religa monitoring his patient's vitals after completing a 23-hour-long heart transplant. His assistant is asleep in the corner. (1987)
At the bottom is a picture of the same patient, 30 years later. He managed to outlive his doctor. Dr. Religa was a pioneer of heart transplantation in Poland, and even though the surgery was considered borderline impossible at the time, he took the chance, and the operation was successful.

IN THE RAIN

High school base ball in the rain.

Love this kid!

I was so impressed with the effort the entire home team put in immediately after the game to make that field look great!

SHELL BEACH

Sanibel Island, Florida…..Road trip?!!!!

LET’S GO!

FULL MOON

BLUE BLOODS

It was a very hard thing
for all those UK “Blue Bloods”
who support their #1 team,
regardless of where
the boys in blue are ranked,
when their “Wildcats”
were bested by the
“Peacocks”
I know that many a
well planned bracket
made it into a
totally different type of
basket last night!

TORNADOES

This weekends drive took me though and area than was recovering from a recent tornado. The tell tail signs of trees being ripped apart, being sheared. Homes and businesses being deconstructed or being leveled. I saw similar devastation down by Bowling Green, Kentucky a few weeks ago. I have watched programs and news reports, but to see the damage first hand is so powerfully overwhelming. I can not imagine the terror and the immense feeling of being so overpowered.

SATURDAY MORNING

New tires for my Daily Escape!

Breakfast at the Cottage on this
very lovely morning!
Roasting three types of tomatoes and
aromatics for home made marinara sauce…
my Nana would approve!
Laundry is done and the little brick house is tidy. It’s time for a wintery drive.
So grateful for last nights snow
and the chilly temps!
Makes winter wonderful!
