I saw something that reminded me of my son today. So I texted it to him. This is his response:

4 STATE ROAD TRIP

Taking a road trip today and just outside of Henderson, Kentucky there are 6 deer at the edge of the woods. And lots of Fat Happy Cows!

Funny how the drive you take daily looks so different from the passenger seat. I think it’s even more lovely when you get to enjoy the view. Evansville, Indiana.

Updike, Illinois the trees are covered in sparkling ice and there are deer in the field.

Stopped in Mt Vernon, IL for a poker chip and a hot chocolate. Cory and his little girl were getting a treat too. I asked his little girl if she brought her daddy to Starbucks on a date. She said yes. Cory said there were 4 siblings at home, but this was her Daddy Daughter date. I told him he got a Gold Star for that!

TODAY IS …

 Carpe Diem Day

So seize the day!

Age saw two quiet children
Go loving by at twilight,
He knew not whether homeward,
Or outward from the village,
Or (chimes were ringing) churchward,
He waited, (they were strangers)
Till they were out of hearing
To bid them both be happy.
'Be happy, happy, happy,
And seize the day of pleasure.'
The age-long theme is Age's.
'Twas Age imposed on poems
Their gather-roses burden
To warn against the danger
That overtaken lovers
From being overflooded
With happiness should have it.
And yet not know they have it.
But bid life seize the present?
It lives less in the present
Than in the future always,
And less in both together
Than in the past. The present
Is too much for the senses,
Too crowding, too confusing-
Too present to imagine.

FIREFALL

Yosemite Firefall is a natural phenomenon where the sun illuminates Yosemite Horsetail Falls, creating a “fiery” effect mainly during the last two weeks of February. To see and capture this phenomenon, you need particular conditions, like 100% clear skies, enough snow on top of the mountain, and warm temperatures to melt the snow and create the waterfall.

CREPES

I fell in love with crepes as a junior high girl. My friend Terry’s mom made asparagus filled crepes for dinner one night that I was at their house, and I was hooked.
When my children were growing up I made chicken filled crepes for dinner every so often and chocolate mousse filled crepes for a fancy dessert. They are so easy to make, fun to serve and freeze so well.
I haven’t made them in many years now, but I’m thinking it might be a nice thing to enjoy again.
I’m thinking a homemade lemon curd ricotta filling would be lovely. And maybe an asparagus and chicken filled crepe for dinner might sound good too!
(Terry’s mom was a single working mom, just like mine. Money was tight in their home just like ours. It’s been over 40 years since I saw Terry and her family. Nice memories and life learning lessons.)

MY ORDER

I purchased a thing on Amazon the other day. And my order arrived at my office today. (I love it when that happens!) But when I opened the box I found 3 of the thing I ordered. So I looked on my order and it said that I ordered one not three. I called customer service and explained the issue. I thought they would say, “please return” the two other items. But they didn’t. They said “just keep them”. What!? I really only need one.

Maybe I should try this out with big ticket items? Can I buy a car on Amazon and get three? Crazy stuff!

MEMORIES

I saw this photo as I contacted a travel vendor today.
I am sure this woman is not who I thought it was,
but my heart was so happy and my eyes teared up.
The woman I see when I look at the photo helped to
mold who I am today.
She was the most wonderful example of
perfection I have ever known.

THE POWER OF LOVE

When the
power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.

MADE ME SMILE

I received this cute cow in a text message. I’m sure it was not planned, but FAT HAPPY COWS anyway!

PINEAPPLE

I had never thought about how Pineapples grow until I  visited Hawaii. I didn’t see a plantation like the one in the photo, but I saw tiny pineapples growing in the lobby of a 5 star resort. At the time I thought it was odd to have pineapples growing around such a grand water feature in such a grand lobby, but I was delighted by the darling little pineapples there. Now I am so glad I did get to see, first hand, this amazing plant. Pineapple plants grow for two or three years before they will produce a pineapple and may grow up to three pineapples in its life cycle. The  fruit itself may take up to 24 months to grow to maturity.
Did you know that a pineapple is really a berry? True!🍍

BABETTE

I chatted with my friend Babette the other day. She lives in Manhattan, New York, in an apartment building. She has lived there for a long time and knows her neighbors well. I love to hear about her neighbors. In New York where the sheer number of people per square mile, immense, they are all still wearing masks. Because, as we both agreed, there is just not enough known still about these viruses. But even with so much unknown and worry for the health and safety of all of us, we still long for interaction.

Babette told me about her neighbors down the hall. A nice family from Tel Aviv. I don’t remember the husbands name, she didn’t remember what he does for a living. But she told me that his wife, Etsey, is younger than him and they have a couple of little boys. Etsey is a stay at home mom.

When the pandemic started, Etsey told Babette that she missed her family, she missed being social, she missed hugging people. She told her how she missed her grandmother and even her grandmothers dog. She wanted to be able to interact with others again.

In 2021 one of Etsey’s sister in-laws died of Covid. Etsey’s husband took off work, left his family in Manhattan and travelled to Tel Aviv to be a support for his family. While there, during their time of morning, he found, as many of us do when a family member dies, that family can be very harsh.

Fast forward to February of 2022. Babette saw Etsey in the hall of their apartment complex and they were chatting.

Babette asked how she was doing, how her family was. Etsey confided “that people are rude and disgusting”. She went on to tell of family being uncaring  and strangers being hateful.

Poor Etsey had witnessed the harsh side of todays world and was teetering on the edge of loosing her love for fellow man.

This sweet lady who wanted to share compassion and kindness had been pushed to a point she did not recognize. Where she saw the ugly in people.

Babette said that she hopes Etsey gets beyond the stark reality that people are disgusting and rude and bad tempered. And gets to be the sweet lady she knows her neighbor to be.

Babette and I agreed that this is a really good example of why living the example you want the world to be, is so vital, now more than ever.

I think it’s easy to see the ugly in the world, it’s all around us, and fall into line with it. But if we all lived the example we learned as children, in our homes and out in the world, we would see that there is hope for today and for tomorrow.

I love chatting with Babette, she sees things from a different vantage point than I do. We all live here together. Love should be priority one!

OLD

Jonathan is the oldest known living terrestrial animal in the world. He came to life in 1832 and is currently 187 years old. He has lived through WW1 and WW2, the Russian Revolution, seven monarchs on the British throne, and 39 US presidents.

THAT SUMS IT UP

C’EST LA VIE

My grandma use to say “c’est la vie” whenever s#!+ happened. I loved this song when came out in 1986.
I love it just as much today!

THERAPY

Work is super complex and overwhelming currently. I have many nights where I wake up panicking, causing the loss of sleep and that just compiles on the strain.

I am working on “calm and charming” in my presence. I think I’m keeping my emotions and my attitude positive.

But after working a half day today I did some self therapy…

FABRIC SHOPPING!

I wandered the rows upon rows of specialty fabrics, from incredible vibrant batiks, delicate batiste, to whimsical prints and beautiful intricate Italian wedding laces.

I went without a shopping plan, just the need to be delighted by the textures and the visual explosion of color. I made an effort to look at the little things… the buttons, thimbles and notions.

I chatted with other shoppers as they pieced their choices together for their projects I spoke to an expert on the design for a new sewing room. Getting advice on how to lay out the creative space to help productively and inspiration.

I chose fabric for my grand daughter, darling and delicate. Then I chose fabrics that absolutely delighted me… they spoke to me of travel, architecture and romantic beauty.

As I handed the cashier my black card, I felt that the price I paid for my therapy session was well worth it.

I followed therapy with a nap! Then I was spoiled with a meal I didn’t cook and fresh baked chocolate chip cookies!
