SELF PITY

Amy Morin

A THING OF BEAUTY

I have an appreciation for vintage vehicles. My true love affair is with the 1953 Chevy 5 window truck. True Bliss there!
But as I have aged and come to understand the passion behind the love of old cars I understand that it is in the restoration and preservation of our past. I like that this passion is ageless. Kids to old timers have the application. And although it is a costly hobby, I think it is a wonderful form of keeping history alive. And no matter if it’s foreign, American made, or the mid-century tractor, it is all A Thing of Beauty.
Yesterday I saw a 1964 Corvette pulled over on the side of a country road. Behind it was a newer SUV. The vette had a flat rear passenger tire. And there were three men, all with white hair, bent down taking a look. My first thought was that someone should call AAA. My second thought, and probably the more accurate one, was that all three of those “young” men was just tickled with the thought of playing with this hot rod. As would be expected! The weather is nice, it’s time to take to the open road.

GARBAGE IN GARBAGE OUT

When my children were young I taught them that the information that they mentally consumed was just as important as what they put into their bodies.

GARBAGE IN GARBAGE OUT

We watched the words that were said at home, the way we spoke to one another. We worked on positive speaking to others and positive self talk as well. I made sure that what was viewed and listened to in our home was worth putting in the home. I knew that my children would learn all the Garbage outside our home, but gosh darn it, I was going to try my best at teaching them that what is in the home is wholesome. Just like the food you put into your body, the information you put in your mind can pollute you.

All in all, I think the practices at home were lessons well taught. I still believe that what you watch on TV, listen to on the radio, podcast or click on FB, Twitter or TikTok not only can be bad for your own self health, but it continues to encourage that same Garbage to continue. If we want a better world, we need to make sure we make choices that make a better world.

I read this today...

Susie Moore:

This weekend I shared the elevator with what appeared to be a personal trainer and her client. They clutched their salad bags and the trainer said proudly, "You are what you eat!" 🥗

(I'm guessing the client wanted to eat something else - and I wanted to chime in and say "hey, I feel ya").
😂

There's no denying the (very toned) trainer in her matching workout gear was right.

What we put inside of our body makes a difference.

But I always want to ask another question when I observe the care people put into their meals:

"What about your brain diet - what are you consuming there?"

It's no secret that we'll spend more on organic food, go the extra couple of blocks for the healthier lunch option, and ensure we have particular stuff to snack on at home that's good for us. Some of us are pretty uncompromising on this.

So today, I feel called to ask you this:

What are you tuning into, reading, listening to, scrolling upon?

It matters.

Because the same principle applies to the brain as it does to the body.

🛑 Rubbish in = rubbish out! 🛑

It's important to be informed, yes. To stay on top of what's going on in the world and doing what you can to be responsible and safe for yourself and others.

But... are you allowing yourself to consume enough good things, too?
And... do you allow good things be *the majority* of what you put in your brain?

Are you:

Following people who make you feel good?
Reading enough inspirational books?
Seeking out stories that will cheer you up?
Tuning into empowering, upbeat music?
Opening up your mind to new, conscious ways of being?
Listening to uplifting and informative TED talks, YouTube videos, podcasts?
Seeking out positive, supportive friends?

Almost ALL of this is free of charge! There's no reason not to.

If you feel heavy, sad, anxious, powerless (or any other negative emotion right now) - ask yourself:

What's playing in the background? What have you been paying attention to? Where's your focus?

There's a direct correlation to your mental consumption of information and how you feel each day.
💪

I felt a bit unenergized a couple of days ago and so sat down and re-read one of my old faves by Abraham Hicks:

SATURDAY

I love early spring Saturdays when it’s sunny and nice. I went out with a girlfriend and did some shopping and tried a new spot for lunch. I did some grocery shopping and got gas too. It’s so pretty out. I drove home with the windows down a little Shine Down and Billy Idol screaming on the radio. A very good Saturday!

TORNADO

The UPS delivery agent came through my office doors with boxes in her arms. I have carried these boxes, each one is very heavy. I know better than to carry more than one at a time. But she came in banging the doors with multiple boxes in her arms. Once through the door, her voice broke the quiet hum of the office. She was so loud and so abrasive. Then someone from the office down the hall came in to hand the delivery agent an envelope. But did not wait to talk to her. Oh man, was that a mistake. The agent was all kinds of rude on that. Loud, Rude and Causing Commotion. Just like a tornado had entered our office. Then as quickly as she barged in, she was gone.

Back to work....click click click...calm and quiet.

COOKIE

 I miss you my Cookie.

More than I can say.

GARDENING

The garden “is a constant experiment…

You can study change and get comfortable with it,

And that opens the door to feeling a lot more joy in your life.”

ADVENTURE

I love people who refer to everything as an adventure. “We’re going on an adventure!”
Even if it’s just to get an ice cream at McDonald’s at 3am!

TONIGHTS MOON

Tonight’s full moon:
The Snow Moon's name simply comes from the fact that there's a heavy amount of snowfall in February.
Some Native American tribes refer to the full moon by different names. The Cree call it the Bald Eagle Moon, the Dakota refer to it as the Racoon Moon, the Algonquin name it the Groundhog Moon, and the Haida say it's the Goose Moon. The Cherokee call it the Hungry Moon because February is known for its lack of food.
The Old Farmer's Almanac notes that on Saturday, February 27, at 3:19 a.m. EST, the Snow Moon will be its brightest, but don't worry, you don't have to be up quite that early to get a good look. The site notes that you should look for the moon on Friday night when the moon will move toward the east at sunset. It will reach the highest point around midnight EST.
