GRANDMA’S TABLE

My grandmother was full blooded Italian, and first generation American. She was the youngest of six children, the only child in her family to be born in the U.S.
She was wonderful.
She married a second generation German-English American boy.

Grandma made the most amazing food. Pasta, marinara, sausage, and lasagna, to mention just a few favorites. She could make every yummy Italian delicacy. Grandma prepared all her meals with love, and most of them in cast iron.

The meal that stands out in my memory as the most common dinner she made, was not Italian.
I think it must have been one of granddad’s favorites, because Grandma made it so regularly.
Cast iron pan fried beef patties (no buns), instant mashed potatoes with butter and canned green beans. Definitely not an authentic Italian meal, but it sure reminds me of home.

I would really love to sit at Grandma’s table with her one more time.
