STAFFING

Tonight we went to dinner here in Pigeon Forge. We thought we would go to “Flavor Town” and while we waited for a table, we planned to bowl a round in their super neat mini bowling alley. Online it said that the wait was just a bit longer than normal. So the four of us head in at 5:30pm. Upon entering the super fun establishment we were told that the wait for a table would be 3 hours. THREE HOURS!
So we thought, well maybe we can play a game or two in the alley first.
So we headed to the back. Where we passed through the bar area, that was full of empty tables and filthy tables. So we figured the problem wasn’t in over crowding but in lack of service. We tried to get a lane but we were told that they were filled for the rest of the evening. Even though two lanes have empty with names on them but no bowlers. So we traipsed through the bar area again to find still empty tables and lots of tables that still needed cleared. Lack of staffing was killing the productivity of this establishment. So we left.
We headed down the main drag and turned into Big Daddy’s Pizzeria. The wait was less than 30 minute, the atmosphere was welcoming and happy. Daniel waited on our group and took great care of us. The pizza and appetizers were great. The establishment was busy and full, but it was moving very well. I highly recommend this pizza joint.

DAILY EXPERIMENT

I believe this, I try to live each day as though it’s a magical experiment. It makes the day less routine and gives that little feeling of happy anticipation and delight in all the details.

EVERYTHING IS WONDERFUL

I got a call from a client today.

These clients are in destination and have been for several days.

So when I get a call from European travelers I tend to panic a bit.

But he was just calling to tell me that everything I planned and put together was "Perfect"!

I could hear their group in the back ground, its 6:15 pm there, and they were all raising a pint to me for treating them well.

I asked if they were having any issues or problems, and they said

"NO, we just wanted you to know we are loving this trip."

"Well, there is one problem... we need to stay for an additional 10 days or so!"

I try to make sure that my clients have all the bits and pieces of their entire trip well put together so that everything runs smoothly.

I get phone calls and email occasionally when something is needed or there is an issue.

But it is so rare that I hear from travelers during their travels just to tell me what a wonderful trip it is.

Sometimes, I love my job!

LUNCH WITH A VIEW

A client stopped in to my office today, wanting to get my opinion on booking lunch reservations. I told her that I highly recommend making your reservations far enough in advance so that you don’t miss out on the opportunity. Even though the menu is set, I told her it would be yummy even if it the courses may sound a bit strange to her. After all how often do you get to have lunch in the Eiffel Tower?

THE AFTERNOON

I opted to take off early from work today. I left a message on my work phone and I headed to see Mr McDonald.
Mr McDonald doesn’t have a farm but he has a very large yard with not one, but two greenhouses. He had plants for me; several verities of tomatoes, hot peppers, ground covers and flowers. Some of them were started from seeds that came from Monticello. Just knowing that thrills me! He is a horticulturist in the truest sense of the word. The man truly has a green thumb. He loaded all the fragile plants into my car and sent me on my way. I am so very grateful to him for his generosity, his skill and his kindness. I took the bounty home to my sunroom and added them to my starter table. This weekend I will do some real planting. But now, with the cool breeze and the sweet smell of blossoms in my back yard, with car keys still in my hand, I kicked off my sandals and I have stretched out in my hammock.
This is a perfect afternoon !

HITCH HIKER

As I drove to work today I took my favorite back roads. Somewhere along the way I picked up a hitch hiker. I didn’t notice her at first. But as I took the twisty, curvy roads, I glimpsed her walking back and forth on the edge of the hood of my cars. She repeatedly walked back and forth several times, not bothered at all by the wind that was whipping my hair into a mess. She stayed calm and collected in her shiny red outfit not showing that the velocity was effecting her at all. She stayed with me, trudging back and forth until I made it to work. When I pulled into my parking spot and stopped my car, she spread her tiny lady bug wings and flew away.
What a delightful traveling companion indeed!
