The Nine Muses

1.   Calliope, "beautiful of voice," is the Muse of
           epic poetry and chief of the nine.
2. Clio, "she who extols," is the Muse of history.
3. Erato, "passionate," is the Muse of love poetry.
4. Euterpe, "she who gladdens," is the Muse of Lyrical
poetry and flute music.
5. Melpomene, "she who sings," is the Muse
of tragedy.
6 Polyhymnia, "rich in hymns," is the Muse
of sacred songs.
7. Thalia, "festive," is the Muse of comedy
and pastoral poetry.
8. Terpsichore, "she who rejoices in dance,"
is the Muse of dance.
9. Urania, "heavenly," is the Muse of astronomy.
