Rorke Denver: a Great Role Model

Rorke Denver; Navy Seal spoke at Cookie's graduation. His mother has been the coach at Desert Harbor for years. Rorke is the author of 'Damn Few: Making the Modern SEAL Warrior' and was the lead actor in the movie, 'Act of Valor'.

He spoke to the students about a Life Theseus. The Life Theseus he would have for them would have two parts. Part one is to BE HARD. Fearing nothing. Taking that first step in each new avenue; be brave, confident, strong. Part two is to WORK HARD. Put your whole self into what ever you are going through. Take that on the challenge, be the one that follows through, finish what you start.

Mr Denver told the kids two secrets. The secret to a Pain Free Life is to think of others. The secret to a Rich Life is to always keep good company.

He also told the kids there is a list of things that they each need to do in their life time. He said their parents wouldn't like everything on the list. But he felt they each needed to accomplish everything on the list.
  • Always be on time
  • Use tools
  • Learn to tie knots
  • Learn how to start a fire
  • Learn to drive a stick shift
  • Learn to change a flat
  • Use Vaseline (like if you get a blister from your new shoes, slap some Vaseline on it and you are good to go)
  • Learn to cook a meal. (Even a simple meal. If you start by heating butter and garlic in a pan, no matter what the recipe. Your house will smell great and everyone will love the meal)
  • Read A Lot
  • Manners count, use them
  • Stitches and a cast; everyone needs to go through the experience at least once in their life
  • Be A Hero, even if it is to help someone across the street. You are a hero to them

Rorke Denver was a fabulous speaker, example, role model!!!
