Quote of The Day

Your outlook on life
is a direct reflection
of how much you like yourself!

When you gather your inner forces together,
Then you can take on anything.

When dealing with things that are very important;
Walk yourself through each step.
Write it all down.
Talk your self through each step out loud.
Then you will be able to get it all done.

February 21

Isn't it funny how things recur in your life.
Things that make the mind ponder.
Make you wonder why.
Yesterday was February 21st.
Red letter day?

It was my mothers birthday.
It was Billy's birthday
(my first high school boyfriend)
It was Iris' and Bill Sr. birthdays
(family friends from high school)
It was Kevin's birthday
(my first true love)
And it was Bart's birthday
(a charming cowboy crooner)

Six influential people in my life.
All born on the same day.
I wonder why.

(Bart, the look on your face was priceless!
I am glad you liked the birthday treasure!!)

10 RULES

Simply Beautiful

Tonight's Entertainment

Tonight is my free night. No kids, no date, no have to's. So I looked through the movies trailers. Saw a few new released I would like to see. When Mark asked what I thought looked good, I told him. He was nice not to totally laugh at me.... or maybe he did, I'm not sure. But he informed me that all the movie I had picked where "Old People Movies".  Well, they looked good to me. But alas I had no movie buddy tonight. So I picked up a movie on Red Box. Figured a girly dinner, a girly drink and a nice movie while I sat here blogging would be good. Mark saw my Red Box choice on the counter as he was walking out the door. He asked "What did you get?" I said "Trouble with the curve". He stopped, looked at me and said, "It's an old person movie too"
So, just to make sure it's clear. . . .
Hello My Name Is Angie, and I Am OLD!
I am okay with that! Because at 46, old feels pretty good. And I am quite secure in my movie preferences!

GREAT MOVIE

Thought of The Day

The Moon

A beautiful view!

Jose's Momma

My friend Jose is the sweetest man, he reminds me of my son. He is sweet and thoughtful and a joy to be around. He is the youngest in his family and we all know he is a momma's boy!!! His mother makes his lunches, no he does not live at home, he owns his own. But OH MY GOSH can his Momma cook!!!! Last week he brought in the most yummy sandwich with homemade Mexican Garbanzo Bean Soup. He came over to my desk  and took a spoon out of my drawer. He handed it to me and pushed the bowl of soup in my direction. He said "Try the garbanzo beans, my mom grew them."......The soup was WONDERFUL! I had never had fresh chick peas, I thought they only came out of a can or dried in a bag.I was in love! Definitely a gastronomic treat!!!
I would like Jose's momma to adopt me!

National Bacon Day

Associated Press February 9, 2013
DES MOINES, Iowa — The smell of bacon was in the air Saturday as thousands converged on Iowa’s capital city for an increasingly popular festival celebrating all things connected with the meat.
Some people wore Viking hats and others walked around with makeshift snouts for the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival. The annual event featured more than 10,000 pounds of bacon served in unusual ways, such as chocolate-dipped bacon and bacon-flavored cupcakes and gelato.
“I love bacon more than I love my job,” said Katie Nordquist, who was dressed in a tuxedo T-shirt that looked like bacon Saturday for her first time at the festival.
And there was a lot of bacon to choose from. The smell of unique concoctions like bacon gumbo and chocolate bacon bourbon tarts wafted through one of two buildings at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The other building had an Iceland theme, with a Viking boat and Icelandic dishes with bacon, to honor a group of delegates visiting from the country

Treats To Try

Mug Cake Recipes

Chocolate Mug Cake Recipe

You’ll need: 4 large microwave-safe mugs

INGREDIENTS
1 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup high quality cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 egg
3/4 cup whole milk
3/4 cup vegetable oil
Toppings, like whipped cream, powdered sugar or chocolate sauce

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Combine all ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not over mix.
2. Divide between four mugs. One at a time, microwave on high for 2 1/2-3 minutes, until cake rises above the mug.
3. Let cool for 2 minutes and garnish with desired toppings.
Tip: Cakes can be made in mugs, cooled and then frozen for up to 1 month. Add toppings just before serving

Vanilla Mug Cake Recipe
Follow the chocolate mug cake recipe, substituting seeds from 1/2 a vanilla bean (or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract) for the cocoa. Cut the bean in half lengthwise, then use a small sharp knife to scrape out the seeds. Garnish with twirls of lemon peel.
Tip: For a stronger lemon flavor, use 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon fresh lemon zest instead. Finish with a lemon glaze: Heat 1/2 cup granulated sugar and 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice over low heat and stir until sugar melts. Brush over cakes while they’re still warm and let it soak in for 20-30 minutes before serving.

Red Velvet Mug Cake

Follow chocolate mug cake recipe, adding 1 tablespoon of red food coloring. Top with cream cheese frosting and fresh strawberry slices.

RAK

Random Act of Kindness....

It had been a long work day,
my car isn't working right, my rent is due,
I had to go in to meet the
new management company,
rush hour was setting in, trafic was getting thick
and I was nearly out of gas.

I looked for the best gas price on the way home.
It was about $3.45 per gal everywhere.
And running out of gas
was not going to make my day any better.
So I stopped at the next service station.
I swiped my debit card. But it didn't work.
I tried to cancell the action.
But it kept telling me that it was
"Pre Paid $35.00".
I figured since I already swiped my card
 I better follow through.
I pumped the $35.00 and I went in to make it right.
I told the guy the pump number
and said that I don't think it read my card.
I said that I wanted to pay for the gas
and I was afraid of it being charged someone else.
He said the guy before me paid for it,
that it was already taken care of.
Maybe I am slow, I think he recognized that,
he said again that it was taken care of
and my card wasn't effected.
I asked, "So I'm done?"
he replied "Yep, Happy Birthday!"

It wasn't my birthday,
but I was touched by someone's
Random Act of Kindness.
I am grateful for other people who pay it forward,
and I hope to always do the same.
Nice way to end a Friday!!!

Chinese New Year

12 Chinese New Year Animals

This is a story from China.  It is about twelve animals of the zodiac: a dog, a pig, a rat, an ox, a tiger, a hare, a dragon, a snake, a horse, a ram, a monkey and a cockerel.

One day the twelve animals were having an argument.  They wanted every year to have a name.  'I think that this year should be named after me,' barked the dog.  'It should be called the year of the Dog.'
'No.' gibbered the monkey, 'I think this year should be named after me.' said the monkey.  'It should be called the Year of the Monkey.'
'No, no,' breathed the dragon.  'This year should be named after me.  It should be called the Year of the Dragon.'
The gods were listening. They heard the animals arguing.  'Stop arguing,' demanded one of the gods. The dog stopped arguing. The monkey stopped arguing. The dragon stopped arguing.  They all stopped arguing and listened. The gods boomed, 'Can you see the big river? You must have a race across the big river. We will name this year after the winner of the race.'
So, all the animals lined up on the bank of the river ready for the race.  They're off!  The animals jumped into the water and swam as fast as they could towards the other side.
The ox was very strong and he could swim very fast.  Soon he was in front of all the other animals; but the rat was very clever. He grabbed the ox's tail and climbed onto his back.  The ox didn't know he was there.
The ox thought he was going to win the race. Just before the ox got to the other side, the rat jumped off the ox's back onto the grass and won the race.
'Yippee! Hoorah!' shouted the rat, 'I'm first.'
The ox was very surprised.  'How did you do that?' he asked, but the rat only laughed.
The gods laughed too and said, 'The rat is the winner. We will call this year the Year of the Rat.  The ox was second, so next year will be called the year of the Ox.
All the other animals finished the race. The tiger was third, the hare was fourth, the dragon was fifth, the snake was sixth, the horse was seventh, the ram was eighth, the monkey was ninth, the cockerel was tenth, the dog was eleventh and the pig was last.
The gods decided that each year would be named after one of the animals in the race.  The animals didn't argue any more. They were very happy, especially the rat because he had won the race.

Titanium

You shout it loud,
but I can't hear a word you say
I'm talking loud,
not saying much
I'm criticized,
but all your bullets ricochet
you shoot me down, but I get up
I'm bulletproof,
nothing to lose
fire away,
fire away
ricochet,
you take your aim
fire away,
fire away
you shoot me down,
but I won't fall
I am titanium
you shoot me down,
but I won't fall
I am titanium
Cut me down,
but it's you who'll have further to fall
Ghost town and haunted love
Raise your voice,
sticks and stones may break my bones
I'm talking loud, not saying much
I'm bulletproof,
nothing to lose
fire away, fire away
ricochet, you take your aim
fire away, fire away
you shoot me down,
but I won't fall
I am titanium
you shoot me down,
but I won't fall
I am titanium
I am titanium
I am titanium
Stone hard, machine gun
Fired at the ones who run
Stone hard, as bulletproof glass
You shoot me down,
but I won't fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down,
but I won't fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down,
but I won't fall
I am titanium
You shoot me down,
but I won't fall
I am titanium
I am titanium

Thought of The Day

True Friendship!
With you, it's all about voiceless communication-
always knowing exactly what to say,
but never actually having to say it.

When no one seems to be listening,
you hear.
When I hurt but don't show it,
you know.
When I turn away to hide my tears,
you see.
When I feel like I can't get through to anyone,
you understand.

Your eyes glow just for me,
and I know you're proud.
You flash your magical, healing smile my way,
and I know everything will be all right.

You know everything there is to know about me.
You know what worries me,
what keeps me up at night,
and what shames me so badly
that I can't share it with anyone.
Most importantly, though,
none of those things bother you.

You've restored my faith in people
and proved that there is a thing
called true friendship.

Only In AZ

My friend Bill worked on my Tahoe Saturday.
Can I just say he is a Mechanical God!
My request was....
STOP THE SQUEAKING and HE DID!!!!
I AM SO HAPPY!
But as I sat there in the perfect weather,
reading my romance novel,
enjoying the rare chance to not have
anything I had to do (nothing I could do)
.....so I just enjoyed!
And got an amazing sunburn!
Not just a bit of sun
but a beautiful raspberry red burn!
But all is good!
Only in AZ can you sit out
in the perfect 69 degree weather
and get a burned!!!

COLUMBINE STUDENT'S FATHER 12 YEARS LATER!!

Guess our national leaders didn't expect this. On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.
They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:

"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good &evil in the hearts of men and women. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out for answers.
"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used.. Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.
"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent
I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.

Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air.
You've stripped away our heritage,
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere,
And ask the question "Why?"
You regulate restrictive laws,
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!

"Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact.
What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws.
Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him.

To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge.. Dare to examine your own heart before casting the first stone!
My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"
- Darrell Scott
