SIMPLE CRAFTSMANSHIP

In this little cottage I’m living in, there are so many old fashioned things. I find them interesting and charming. One of my favorite things is the wooden toilet paper spindle. I had never seen a wooden one before moving into this little abode. Yes metal or plastic, but to me, wood means craftsmanship. I love this little bit of craftsmanship in my little cottage!

Saturday Afternoon

It’s been a 6 day work week and as I drive home it was 75 degrees and perfectly beautiful outside.
I drove with the windows down and the stereo turned way up. With my hand out the window I was singing away. Before the road transitioned into two lanes an ambulance screamed past me. I didn’t think much of it, said a little prayer for those involved and I kept on singing.
Shortly after I passed the grade school the sparse traffic cane to a stand still. I found that screaming ambulance, a fire truck, several police cars and another ambulance. The wreck must have been a bad one. Everyone at the intersection at the top of the hill looked shocked and forlorn. I said another prayer. The officers had the line of traffic head south rather than eastward. And I followed a road less traveled. I always wondered about the little roads just off the main drag.
As I drove down this country road I fell in love with it. Farmed hills, sweeping yards, darling houses.
In a couple spots the trees hung over the road making a canopy. When I came to a stop sign I turned back to my original direction. Down that path there was a large old farmhouse surrounded by trees. The house had large trees in the front and along the drive. And on this beautiful day, the toilet paper that decorated those trees in abundance was some of the most beautiful streamers waving in the breeze that I have ever seen.
I’m grateful for so much. I’m blessed I’m so many ways, blessed with so much. The drive home made me grateful, yet again for all I have.

Humanity

I saw the most incredible display of humanity on the sky train. A six foot five man suffering from drug abuse and\or mental health issues was being very aggressive on the bus with erratic movements, cursing, shouting, etc. While everyone was scared, this one seventy year old woman reached out her hand, tightly gripping his hand until he calmed down, sat down silently, with eventual tears in his eyes. I spoke to the woman after this incident and she simply said, "I'm a mother and he needed someone to touch." And she started to cry. Don't fear or judge the stranger on the bus: life does not provide equal welfare for all its residents.

Local Johny’s is a home town, desert dweller local eatery.
The food is as great as the service, cutting edge and sassy.
We ordered the Flat Tire breakfast burrito and breakfast Tacos.
Yummy!!!
And I shared the unisex bathroom with a local cyclist!

Vacation

Day one
How sad to have a head cold on the first day of vacation.
But my nails got done, the bags got packed and a nap was taken.
I spoke to the Groom and did the online checkin for the flight.
It’s after midnight now and the car is cruising down the Natchez
Highway heading to Nashville.
Let the excitement begin!

She is just the most darling little lady. 

I adore this dear lady!

She has worked here in Evansville, 

with our company since she was 17 years old. 

They have interviewed her today for the 

company publication and they have taken her

photograph. Next month she will be featured in 

our monthly newsletter and our branch office will 

be celebrating with a party in her honor.

TV Time

Okay, so I’m watching HGTV’s “A Very Brady Renovation” where HGTV and the Brady Bunch kids (that I had to google the ages of, because I was just so curious) are renovating the original Brady house. And I am totally feeling like “Old School Home Coming” loving this program.
Then it’s commercial time... and since I don’t watch too much TV, I tend to get into the adds. And low and behold this add where this yoga girl is talking about her Singing Joyful HaPPy  “HOOHA”
I kid you not! Yeast infection hilarity! I laughed so hard!!!

In A Name

What's in a name.....?

I work with a vendor representative who's last name is Passalacqua. She is based out of New York, and is delightful to work with.
One day we were confirming locations for a tour and I miss pronounced the name of a city.
We both laughed. Then she told me what her last name is and said that everyone struggles to pronounce it correctly. So I asked her what her last name means.
Passalacqua: Italian for  Pass The Water

A grateful client dropped these amazing cookies off at my desk today. I was blown away by her kindness. And my coworkers were all delighted too!

Labor Day Sunday

The Adams are having a Labor Day gathering today.

People come and go, every body brought food, and all kids have been in the pool. 

The guys are playing a super funny game of corn hole and everyone is cheering them on.

The weather is warm, just like the end of summer is supposed to feel. 

But I’m surprised by how everyone knows everyone, 

and the stories of how each person is related to each other is amazing and hilarious.

I needed people today.... this was truly comic relief!

I even got a darling bracelet from a 5 year old!

I saw two of these fellows over the weekend. 

I have seen four others in the last several years. I’m courteous and a bit creeped out. 

Woodchuck

Range

Woodchucks (also called groundhogs) are found in southern Canada, Alaska, Northwestern and Northeastern United States west up to the prairie and south to Alabama.

Habitat

They live in burrows in fields, hedgerows and on the edge of forests. They have adapted to do well in farmlands and pastures as well.

Body Traits

The largest member of the squirrel family, they vary in weight from 6-12 pounds (males are larger). They can be yellow to brown with frosted hair tips and a rounded body, bushy tail and short, strong legs for digging. The woodchuck’s front teeth grow continuously throughout their lives.

Habits

They live life mostly on the ground and den underground. They build extensive burrows with many rooms and exits. They have separte rooms for food and sleeping and waste. They are active during the day (diurnal) in the summer and hibernate in the winter. They live alone, except when mating or raising young.

Diet

They eat mostly plants (herbivores), but sometimes eating insects, eggs and snails. Woodchucks make a range of noises including a high-pitched whistle, so are sometimes called "whistle-pigs." They are true hibernators, sleeping from October to March or April. They live alone except when mating or females with young.

Predators

Predators include foxes, coyotes, dogs and man.

Reproduction

Females are pregnant for 30 days (gestation) and have 2-7 young, usually in May.

Lifespan and/or Conservation Status

Woodchucks can live up to 6 years in the wild. They are listed as Lower Risk - least concern.

A Nap and A Puppy

At 7am I’m finding it hard to pull myself out of bed. I’ve been mostly awake since before 6:00.
I think I would really like a nap, and a puppy. A warm soft fluffy puppy. Snuggles and a nap.
Then someone can take the puppy away because I don’t want that responsibility in my life.
And I’ll just spend the rest of the day doing fun things!

A co-worker recently moved and was telling me that they do not have a fence around their yard yet, so they have to keep their dogs collar on to chain them in the yard. His dog has a tumor near her ear, causing her to get dizzy. They are looking into getting it taken care of. But, when the collar is on, the dog shakes her head and falls down. He said that in the new yard, when she shakes her head, she falls down and rolls down the hill. Now, this is not funny...but it is SO FUNNY! I advised him to record this action. teehee hee
