TITANIC

The Titanic sank on this April 14th, 1912

I SAW AN ARTICLE...

I saw an article that was titled...
"HOW TO DECORATE
IF YOU HAVE A BROWN COUCH"
I found this to be a bit silly. I did not read the article, I wonder if many people did.

I bought a sofa many many years ago. I loved the olive leaf pattern on it. I liked it so much that I bought two matching chairs and an ottoman. The sofa was a fold out sleeper. There were a few sleep overs on it. I seem to remember 3 young ladies being rather crazy on it and ending up entangled in it. I also remember lots of family and friend time on that sofa. All the Monday 'Game Night" parties.
Well, it was loved a lot...perhaps too much. It was looking rather aged. When my cousin, Diana, got a cute new sofa for her new house, I inherited a very well built white sofa. So, I put the old one in the garage and started a new project. With the learning I gleaned from my upholstery night class several years before. I started to de-bone my sofa. I kept all the cushions and every bit of fabric I removed from it. It took me a few weeks to get it all taken apart. And to my surprise, when I put the bones out at the curb to be picked up. Someone came within hours... and it was gone. My new white sofa had seen lots of love even though it was better construction than my fold out, it still looked rather rough. It had come to me with a brand-new sofa cover made of white duck cloth. Sturdy and functional... but not my thing. I dyed the cover. I mixed chocolate brown and wine fabric dye. It turned out lovely! I also took some of the fabric that I had removed from the carcass of my old sofa and made cushions and curtain accents for the room. I love my living room.

So, when I read the title of the article "How to decorate if you have a brown couch" my reaction was...Why would you need someone to tell you how to decorate?
You need to love your space, to make it yours. If you have not, then it is time to make some decorating decisions of your own!
You must love where you live, who you are and what you do.
You create your world!!!

THE GREEN REVOLUTION

I watched a documentary on PBS today about Norman Borlaug. I learned how this nan revolutionized food production to feed the masses. His methods were hands on and mind blowing to most. And even though the long term effects may have not been ideal to the environment, he saved the lives of millions. I am in awe of his drive and ingenious methods.

MY LITTLE GARDEN

I sat in my back yard yesterday watching the little squirrels and birds. I marveled at the new growth on the trees and the color of the grass.
As I sat there I knew I needed to start my garden but I always hesitate. Is it too soon, have I hesitated too long..? This morning I saw this photo on my memories on FB from 4 years ago. I remember the day we put the bird house and post in my little back yard. And that year I enjoyed my little garden so much.
I guess it’s the perfect time to start my garden!

BLESSED

During this time of social distancing I feel very blessed to be employed. For 8 hours a day I am busy.
I don’t think I could handle all the hours of down time. Don’t get me wrong, I have projects to do.
But the lack of social interaction is killing me. I am so lonely. I am grateful that John has his son and friends to game with, and I am blessed to be able to talk with Mark and Jessette regularly.I know I’m whining but I’m so lonely. I’ll keep counting my blessings. I have so many.

JFK QUOTE

I really don't know why
it is that all of us are so
committed to the sea,
except I think it's because
in addition to the fact that
the sea changes,
and the light changes,
and ships change,
it's because we all
came from the sea.
And it is an interesting
biological fact that all
of us have in our veins
the exact same percentage
of salt in our blood that
exists in the ocean,
and therefore,
we have salt in our blood,
in our sweat,
in our tears.
We are tied to the ocean.
And when we go back to the sea
- whether it is to sail or to watch it-
we are going back
from whence we came.

LITTLE WINTERS

This is a very delightful thing to me. Being the "Phoenician", from the desert Southwest, where winter lasts all of about 16 seconds, I truly do love winter in the midwest. I like the cold weather, flannel sheets are now amazing, lined socks are a real thing, and snow is truly the icing on the winter cake.
I first heard of the Little Winters from a friend, and I was enchanted. He added Easter Squall to his list. I will take them all!!!

Even as we go farther into spring we are not exempted from occasional cold snaps that make it feel like we’ve been blasted back to winter. All it takes is one cold front and temperatures drop from the 70s, even the 80s, to the 50s. We are about to take another ride on Kentucky’s famous weather roller coaster.
Before we were able to get the forecast at our finger tips, people would watch the weather closely for signs. That’s how we could all those weather lores like “red sky in the morning, sailors take warning” or a halo around the moon means rain is coming soon. Paying attention to all the little things in nature helped our ancestors know what to expect and when to play certain crops.
There are five little winter climates folk lores, typically coming about every two weeks. Each “winter” recognizes the return of continental polar air masses, at varying degrees of severity, that make it feel like winter again. The different names are related to what’s in bloom. For example, a cold snap that hits during early April is known as “redbud winter.”  We are bracing for a “dogwood winter” over the coming days.
After an unseasonably chilly start, temperatures have been warming nicely so far this week. This warming trend will peak Thursday with highs in the neighborhood of 80 degrees! But things are about to change as a strong cold front continues pressing south. A round of rain and storms late Thursday and Friday will eventually usher in the blast of winter. During this “dogwood winter” our high temperatures will nose-dive some 20 to 25 degrees. We’ll wake up in the 30s and end up only in the mid 50s on Saturday.
A battle between warm and cold air masses is not uncommon during April. As the jet stream, or the driver of the weather, oscillates north and south. Usually by this time of year the warm air is winning out the battle. But occasionally the pattern gets “troughy.” A trough of low pressure can dig in, allowing colder air to spill southward.

WEEK 4

This week is "Week 4" of working from home.
It is not as easy or as difficult as I anticipated it being.
I still get ready each morning...
except I don't wear shoes.
I really like not wearing shoes.
I am dressed. Hair and makeup still get done.
I have to say that I prefer the organization
and filing methods at the office
far better than here in my dining room.
I miss the office printer the very most.
Second would be my desk chair.
Third would be my work phone.
But everything is still getting done
and everyone is still getting taken care of.
All is well, working from home... "Week 4"

THE FABRIC STORE

There has always always been a special love in my heart for the fabric store.
I can get lost there for hours, and never spend a dollar. I can also end up spending a vast fortune.
Last night I stayed up and worked on quilts. Today I needed batting for those quilts.
Since we are self quarantined, I went online and purchased the batting.
I then headed to pick up my batting. Curb side pickup!

LET’S DO THIS TONIGHT

Watching The Rolling Stones LIVE in my living room! Awesome!!!

INTERESTING

Have a history teacher explain this if they can.

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.

John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.

John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.

Both wives lost a child while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.

Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln's secretary was named Kennedy.

Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.

Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.

Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.

John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.

Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.

Both assassins were known by their three names.

Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named "Ford."

Kennedy was shot in a car called "Lincoln" made by "Ford."

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

And here's the "kicker":

A week before Lincoln was shot, he was in Monroe, Maryland.

A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.

AND...................:

Lincoln was shot in a theater and the assassin ran to a warehouse...

Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and the assassin ran to a theater

Interesting!

GOOD FRIDAY

What is so good about Good Friday?
Nothing about the situation...
But everything about Jesus in that situation.

When the world was at its worst, Christ was at his best.

He created good from evil.
He created Hope from despair.
He created life from death.

He still does.

“Each of us will have our own Fridays—those days when the universe itself seems shattered and the shards of our world lie littered about us in pieces. [...]

But I testify to you in the name of the One who conquered death—Sunday will come. In the darkness of our sorrow, Sunday will come. [...] In this life or the next, Sunday will come.” (Joseph Wirthlin)
.
The world is in a state of “Friday” right now.
But it too is good. Not because the situation is good, but because Christ is good in the situation.

He overcame death. And He will help us overcome this. And everything else we face.

Sunday will come.

LIFE CHANGES ALL AROUND US

We are going through some very trying times. And my heart goes out to all those that are truly suffering. In all this I think there is so much to be learned. When we are given a reason to make life changes it’s so amazing what changes in life.

I am working from home currently, so I get to see what happens in my neighborhood when I am usually away. I now know that my mail man visits my street each morning at 9:30. I know now that my trash collectors are two guys that back the huge truck down my street, then work both sides of the street at once.

I now know the new neighbor down the street! I have been watching the handy men that have been working on her house. I know the family across the street takes their little kids outside several times a day to run off energy. There is a darling little lady at the Sisters House who sits outside in the sun when the weather is good. And the next door neighbor is just as obnoxious as I thought he would be.

It seemed like the entire neighborhood did yard work on the weekend. And my yard got some updates too. In the time that I have been working from home, I see that Spring has Sprung. Everything is in bloom. My trees are all budding out and becoming green. I love the green.

This pandemic has caused us to function in new ways, see things in different light. I hope I am taking advantage of this time to become a better person. Maybe this life change has given us the opportunity to slow down and look at the life around us. It is a new chapter in everyone's life, because we are all going through this together. And when the world is back in full swing, I hope we take this lesson we have been given and use it to make the next chapter even better.
