Little Goblins Ten by Pamela Jane

Over in the forest where the trees hide the sun lived
a big mommy monster and her little monster one.
"Scare!" said the mommy; "I scare!" said the one.
So he scared and he scampered where the trees hide the sun.

Over in the forest where the Spooks shout "Boo!"
Lived a pale daddy ghost and his little ghosties two.
"Haunt!" cried the daddy, "We Haunt!"  the cried two.
So they hid and they haunted where the Spooks shout "Boo!"

Over in the forest near a gnarled oak tree.
Lived an old mother zombie and her little zombies three.
"Stare!" said the mommy; "We stare!" said the three.
So they stared all together near the gnarled oak tree.

Over in the forest where the fierce winds roar.
Lived a gray father wolf and his little wolfs four.
"Howl!" said the father; "We howl!" said the four.
So they howled and they growled where the fierce winds roar.

Over in the forest where the shadows come alive.
Lived an old mother mummy and her little mummies five.
"Moan!"said the mother; "We moan!' said the five.
So they moaned and they groaned where the shadows come alive.

Over in the forest int a hovel made of sticks.
Lived an old mother witch and her little witches six.
"Cackel!" screeched the mother; "We cackle!" screeched the six.
So they crowd and they cackled in the hovel made of sticks.

Over in the forest in a mossy green heaven.
Lived a scaly father dragon and his little dragons seven.
"Breath!" said the father; "We breath!" said the seven.
So they breathed flames of fire in the mossy green heaven.

Over in the forest by the graveyard gate.
Lived a boney father skeleton and his little skellies eight.
"Rattle!" said the father; "We rattle!" said the eight.
So they rattle and they ran by the graveyard gate.

Over in the forest near a tall dark pine.
Lived a furry mother bat and her little batties nine.
"Swoop!" said the mother; "We swoop!" cried the nine.
So they swooped in the shadows near the tall dark pine.

Over in the forest in a deep green glen.
Live an old father goblin and his little goblins ten.
"Leap!" said the father; "We leap!" said thbe ten.
So they laughed and they leaped in the deep green glen.

Over in the forest where the trees hide the sun,
the big mommy monster called to her little monster one.
"Trick or Treat?" asked the mommy; "Treat!" cried the one.
So they skipped off together for some Halloween fun.

Thought of The Day

You should never push a loyal person to the point where you learn the consequences of your actions.

October's Full Moon

Some Native American tribes referred to this month's full moon as the Hunter’s Moon. After September's Harvest Moon, it was a time to hunt to continue preparations for the long winter. It is also known as the Travel Moon or the Dying Grass Moon. The moon rises just after sunset and sets at sunrise, so this is the only night in the month when the moon will be visible all night long. It's near perigee (closest to Earth) so it should appear very large. I hope you get a chance to take a look! I am an early riser, so this morning's walk was very bright indeed. Dr. A. Weil

The full moon is tonight!

The Dynamics

I turned the tv on, for background noise, as I started dinner and a load of laundry. I noticed that Wheel of Fortune was on. So I popped in the living room every few minutes, to see what was happening. It was then that my whole world slid sideways..... I learned that I have no idea how
The Wheel of Fortune works! I watched for a few more minutes... I knew they bought letters, and
then they try to guess the words. But when they kept asking for more letters and it kept going and going....I realized I don't have a clue about the Wheel of Fortune dynamics.
I also learned that I'm just fine with this!

My Concrete Definition

Happiness is:

Being in tune with my inner self
(having that inner contentment with self)
Being cheerful with myself and others
    (focusing on the positive)
Having my needs met
   (love, friendship, daily life needs)
Moving forward toward the future
   (interests and goals).

Three things that make me happy:
1. Being with my best friend
2. Spending time with my children
3. Adventures (enjoying my surroundings,
going new places & seeing new things)

THE FUNDAMENTAL HAPPINESS PARADOX

By Prof. Raj

It was a warm and sultry afternoon in mid-September when my cousin, who was fresh off the boat from India, and I strolled into a salad bar in Austin, TX.

“How does the salad bar concept work?,” asked my cousin.

“Well, you just load your plate with the things that you want to eat,” I said, pointing to the various items on display on the bar, “and once you are done, you carry your plate to the person sitting at the checkout counter and pay $5.99 per pound. Then you join me and start eating.”

My cousin looked at the items in the salad bar. It was a typical salad bar with many vegetarian options (onions, tomatoes, lettuce, olives, chickpeas) and some non-vegetarian ones (bacon crumbles, ham pieces, grilled chicken).

“You mean, I pay $5.99 per pound regardless of what I put on my plate?,” asked my cousin, his eyes bulging. He wasn’t used to the salad bar concept.

“Yes, it’s $5.99 per pound regardless of what you put on your plate,” I confirmed, “but today you don’t pay—the meal’s on me.”

I knew exactly what my cousin was thinking. He, like many people, was price-sensitive. He recognized that, pound for pound, the non-vegetarian items were more expensive than the vegetarian ones. This would tempt him to load his plate with the non-vegetarian items. But doing so would come at a cost to his enjoyment of the salad. He didn’t eat bacon and he didn’t care for grilled chicken; he liked his chicken marinated and cooked or fried, not grilled. And I knew that he loved chick-peas.

So, what would he do? Would he choose to maximize value-for-money and go for more of the grilled chicken, or would he choose to maximize enjoyment of the salad and go for more of the chickpeas?

The suspense was killing me, but thankfully, I didn’t have to wait for long. He loaded his plate with much more of the grilled chicken than the chickpeas.

Value for money had trumped enjoyment.

As my cousin sat at the table, I turned to him and said, without a hint of sarcasm—well, maybe just a tiny hint of it—, “I hope you enjoy your salad.”

My cousin had exhibited what I call the Fundamental Happiness Paradox. The paradox refers to the idea that, although happiness is one people’s most important goals, people often act in ways that sabotages their own happiness. My colleagues and I have documented the paradox across a variety of contexts, and I am unhappy (sorry, couldn’t resist the chance to pun) to report that the tendency to sabotage one’s own happiness is.

COURSERA

Several years ago my friend David told me about
a website called COURSERA.

He had taken a course or two from the site,
and thought I would enjoy it.
I have since looked at the site many times.
But as with many things,
it was something outside my comfort zone,
so I did not go any farther that just looking.

The last couple of years has shown me that
I can do anything I want to do.
I am capable of doing new things,
and I am the only one holding myself back.
SO..... I decided to do more than just look
at the pretty pictures and take the next step.

The site is full of college and university
courses taught around the world. There is a
huge selection of interests.
Courses to help you further your education or your career.
Courses on a vast assortment of interests,
professional, educational, or just for your
personal learning and enjoyment.

The courses are free to participate in.
If you would like to earn a certificate in the
course you choose, you can pay a fee to receive that as well.
I'm just in this for the fun of learning.
(Kind of like when I became a Realtor.
I didn't love the occupation, but I LOVED the classes.)

Take a look at the website

The course I am taking is
"A Life of Happiness and Fulfillment"
 by Prof. Raj Raghunathan
I just finished week one.
Not only did I enjoy week one,
but I have learned so much.
I don't know what other courses will be like.
But I know this is just the first of many
that I will take.
