TODAY SOCIAL MEDIA TOLD ME

In the Netherlands, bricks are learning to breathe.

A green-tech innovation is transforming ordinary buildings into living walls — by designing bricks that invite moss to grow directly on their surface.

These moss-friendly bricks require no soil, no maintenance — just rain and wind.
And what they offer in return is remarkable:
Purify urban air
Cool buildings and streets by up to 7°C
Capture and store CO₂ naturally

In the city of Leiden, schools and bus stops are being cloaked in moss — turning everyday walls into air-cleaning, climate-cooling ecosystems.

This isn’t just decoration. It’s a defense against urban heat and pollution.
A quiet, green revolution is rising — brick by brick.

Yesterday Mayberry brought her mommy to my house for a Tea Party Lunch! I took very few photos because I was in the moment and wanted to enjoy my ladies. But it was a great day!

MENU:
Olive Quick Bread (Savory and amazingly delicious!)
Ceviche (with shrimp…OMG wonderful!)
Watermelon Salad (Sweet and savory, one of my favs)
Chicken Salad with Green Apples (simply good)
Charcuterie Board (Cherries, orchard plums, apples, alfalfa sprouts, cheese, carrots)
And for the finicky 5 year old… Dino chicken nuggets with tatter tots and a bit of ketchup.

ALIVE with STEVE

Steve Burns, Original ‘Blue’s Clues’ Host, Is Launching a Podcast for Grown-Ups That’s a ‘Continuation’ of the Beloved Kids’ Show

At 51, Steve Burns is still searching for clues about the meaning of life.

Burns, the actor, musician and writer best known as the original host of Nickelodeon’s “Blue’s Clues,” is launching an original podcast with Lemonada Media called “Alive.” It’s slated to premiere in the fall of 2025 (with an exact date TBD).

“Alive” is a weekly show in which Burns and his guests will discuss “what it means to stay human in a complicated world.” The podcast will touch on themes including mortality, masculinity, loneliness — and success. The inspiration for the podcast came after he shared a viral inspirational video for Nick Jr.’s promotion of the 25th anniversary of “Blue’s Clues” in 2021. It was a moment when Burns “found himself in conversation again with tens of millions of grown-up fans who still considered him a friend,” according to Lemonada.

SATURDAY WITH MAYBERRY

What a day! We started with a trip to the hardware store. We checked out all the flowers. And on the way home to Grammy’s we stopped by Dunkin’. Mayberry chose a strawberry frosted with sprinkles! And after sampling Grammy’s plane cake donut, she agreed that was good too.
We played with all Grammy’s toys and had several tea parties.

We watched a movie with one tea party. We FaceTimed with Uncle Mark and loved watching his dogs.
We went shopping and gathered things for a fun lunch. She taught me about catchup potato chips. So interesting! We also picked out several new outfits and fancy princess shoes! I love spoiling her! She will only be little for a while.
We colored with new crayons on the table covered in paper. Then when Papaw got home, they played hide and they watched Bluey. After dinner we took a happy little girl home.
This Grammy is tired!

SUMMER RIDE

Took the first ride of summer. Three hours and many miles through the woods and small towns. Once the sun started to set, the temperature started to dip. And the sunset was lovely. I saw three deer… a perfect day!

THE PROCESS

Every time you miss an exit, miss your flight or get stuck in traffic, you’re actually being delayed for a reason. You are being redirected to a different path. What feels like an inconvenience is actually protecting you from something unseen. Even if you don’t get where you wanted to go, you will always end up where you are meant to be. Trust the process

FAIRY TALES

There’s a story that a mother, hoping to steer her child toward a successful scientific career in the footsteps of Albert Einstein, asked the famous scientist about the kind of reading that would best prepare her child for such a future.

To her surprise, the scientist recommended "Fairy tales and more fairy tales."

The mother protested that she was serious about her question, and wanted a serious answer.

But Einstein stuck to his answer, adding that creative imagination is the essential element in the intellectual equipment of the true scientist, and that fairy tales are the childhood stimulus to this quality.

WE NEED MORE

On May 26th I posted an entry on NAPPING by Dr. Weil.
Over the past four weeks I have been living with a headache that varies in pain level but never quite went away.
I took all the things, yet the pain persisted.
We had a calm weekend, the last couple days, and I took the opportunity to nap. Twice.
This morning after sleeping in, I have no pain. Maybe I just needed more sleep. Maybe I just needed to nap!

Side note: My very best naps happen when I sleep across my bed, not the same position I sleep in at night. I also end up with pillows being everywhere, not the same as I do at night. And I have a hand knitted cotton blanket/throw that my daughter made me, it’s just the perfect light weight and cozy.
Perfect napping for me.

APPSTINENCE

Appstinence: Trying to stay off social media.

WHEAT

The fields that were such a beautiful shade of green are now golden waves nearly ready to harvest.
I have always wanted to touch it. The other day, as we drove through southern Kentucky, at the side of the road… not in a farmers field, I plucked a few shafts of wheat.
I loved being able to touch those beautiful plants.
